Today, we began a two-day Project Start-Up and Formulation Workshop in Monrovia, in preparation for an European Union (EU) funded project that we recently won in partnership with SOS Children's Villages Liberia and the Alliance for Peace, Justice and Human Rights The project titled “Strengthening Civil Society Organizations Working for the Inclusion of Vulnerable and Marginalized Youth,” will be implemented in Margibi, Grand Bassa and Grand Cape Mount Counties for three years, with the aim of strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs)/Youth groups working to promote the inclusion of vulnerable and marginalized youth in rural and underserved communities. The project will support youth-led and youth-focused CSOs and informal groups to engage more meaningfully in governance processes, policy dialogue, and decision-making at the local, regional, and national levels.

Today’s event brought together critical stakeholders in the sector including officials of government and civil society leaders to share our aspirations about the project, receive insights on best practices for effectively working with the stakeholders, as well as get buy-in for seamless project implementation.

Today we began a two-day capacity-building training for the Conservation, Community, and Carbon Departments (CCCDs) of the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) of Liberia. The activity is financed by the Embassy of Sweden in Monrovia through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP Liberia).

Earlier this year, IPER won a consultancy contract from UNDP to undertake a comprehensive capacity gap assessment of the CCCDs, develop a capacity development plan, and roll out capacity-building training in targeted capacity gaps that will be identified through the assessment.

The training brings together 25 technical staff of the FDA’s CCCDs, focusing on report writing, office etiquette, time management, and communication—verbal and non-verbal. The trained staff will in turn roll the knowledge out to lower-level staff, especially those assigned in the field.

We'd love to congratulate the Republic of Liberia on its overwhelming victory as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. This victory signifies the country's restoration as a respectable member of the community of nations and a responsible partner for global peace building. It is our hope that this feat will be used to the benefit of the nation and the regions it represents.
