The Grebo Confederation - Maryland Branch Hosts Her Second Meeting of the Year in Harper City, Maryland County.
March 23, 2025.
Harper, Liberia - Yesterday, Saturday, March 22, 2025, the Grebo Confederation had her second meeting of 2025 in Harper City, Maryland County at the residence of its County - Branch President, Mr. John Kodjo Wilson in Old Kru Town Community. The attendance of the meeting was about three times the previous meeting's attendance, i.e., about 32 persons were in attendance. The ratio between the participants from Harper to Pleebo is 9:1 on the scale of ten.
This meeting was so great and insightful as we accommodated attendees from diverse walks of life to discuss matters keen to the Overview of the Confederation, and the Quizzing and Spelling Bee Competitions. The items were vividly discussed with recommendations being made.
In compliance with the agenda we had, Mr. Wilson elaborated on the overview of the Grebo Confederation as he did in the previous meeting. Key issues that drew the attention of the attendees in his elucidation were:
βThe Scholarship Plan for the Confederation and
βThe Positions to be Occupied within the Confederation.
Many questions were asked regarding the scholarship plan of the confederation but paramount to them were, 'how will a person benefit from the scholarship?', 'Is there any criterion set for a person to become a beneficiary?' Miss. Jappy Momo asked.
Mr. John Kodjo Wilson, the President of the Confederation - Maryland Branch replied, 'the awarding of the scholarship ought to be provided by the confederation might be based on a grade point level and also the level of voluntary service to the confederation.' He also emphasized that if a committed member or official of the confederation does not reach the minimum grade point average to benefit from the scholarship ought to be provided, the said person could benefit from it because of their service to the confederation.
Contrary to this, Mr. Nyemah Neufville who works with Street Child - Liberia said that he doesn't support the sponsorship of students at the university level. 'There are lot of non-school going children who are around our communities today because of the lack of money to go to school. They should be prioritized over the university students who are already grown up', he said.
In regards to the positions that need to be occupied, the president explained that positions such as vice president, secretary, financial secretary, and others are vacant and need to be occupied by potential and proactive members. He also recounted that coordinator positions for Youmuweh and Clumuweh, and districts were also available.
Having coordinators for Youmouweh and Klumouweh became a crucial point of discussion after the pronouncement of the available positions. Many saw it as a way for continuous division between those two groups. Ms. Jappy Momo commented that another name could be suggested instead of Youmouweh and Klumouweh as the confederation sub-division that may have coordinators. She also said that this may bring about power struggle since these groups have been divided for politics for some time now. In harmony with this, Mr. Jackson W. Williams Jr. recommended that subdivisions of the Grebo Confederation could get coordinators on the basis of religious affiliation - traditional and Christian groups instead of the Youmouweh and Klumouweh. Mr. Edward Hnebliosiedoe Stemn also supported the aforementioned recommendation since similar situation is occurring between two tribes in Pleebo District.
Besides, While we are intending to use different names to identify the subdivision of the confederation, Mr. Nyema Neufville said we shouldn't avoid the issue of the Klumouweh because it would be good to disclose the ill-effect of the issue to our people and help them in mitigating it. Mr. Edward Stemn, the attendee from Pleebo, also recommended that the resolution of the Youmouweh and Klumouweh's issue should be one of our goals.
Under Quizzing and Spelling Bee Competitions, the body has unanimously agreed that the quizzing competition be held for the high school students i.e., junior and senior high school students and the spelling bee should be conducted for the elementary schools. With this steady decision, Temporary Academic Committee was formed whereby it was charged with the responsibility to make a mini budget for the Quizzing and Spelling Bee Competitions.
Few persons were appointed to serve on the academic committee with an ex-official. They are as follows:
1. Ms. Happy Mombo ... Chairperson
2. Mr. David Killen ... Co-chair person
3. Ms. Charlesline Dahn ... Secretary
4. Mr. Otis Yineni Wisner ... Member
5. Mr. J. Ephraim Nyeah ... Member
6. Mr. Jonathan Harmon ... Ex-official
Under the AOB, Mr. Samuel D. Wallace applauded the founders and co-founders for this wonderful initiative. He recounted his experience in River Gee where he was helped because of the unity of the Grebo people in that part of Liberia. So he believes that as the name of the organization implies, it will bring all Grebo people together and Make us one.
Away from this, others made recommendations for the need for:
β Constitution and
β Office Space.
The meeting has enlightened the minds of our newly welcomed members on the mission, core values and goals of the confederation. The existing positions that will be given to out in the soonest possible time with adherence to the commitment of our members while avoiding the use of Youmouweh and Klumouweh as subdivision for coordinator positions. Our quizzing competition will be conducted among high schools while the spelling bee will be held for elementary schools.
Thank you.
