In line with the ongoing observance of the 16 Days of Activism, the Independent National Commission on Human Rights, along with its partners—CJPS and Plan International Liberia in collaboration with the Women Human Rights Defenders of Liberia celebrated the International Women’s Human Rights Defenders Day in Monrovia. This event took place on November 28, 2025.
The program featured a panel discussion focused on the Human Rights Protection Mechanism for Women in Liberia. It highlighted the remarkable contributions of women who bravely champion gender equality and human rights in the country. The panelists emphasized the relentless dedication of women fighting against discrimination, violence, and injustice. They acknowledged that Women Human Rights Defenders often work in tough conditions, facing intimidation, harassment, and even violence, yet they remain steadfast in their quest for a fairer and more just society for all, regardless of their status.
Moreover, the participants urged for increased budgetary support for the Independent National Commission on Human Rights, enabling them to promote and protect the rights of not just women, but all citizens and residents across Liberia.
In a remark, Mr. Francis Senkppanie Konyon, CJPS, recognized the significant influence that Women Human Rights Defenders have in fostering more just and equitable communities in Liberia. Their unwavering commitment to justice serves as an inspiration to everyone, and their efforts are crucial in tackling the social and political challenges facing the nation.
