The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) has successfully concluded a specialized laboratory training on soil analysis, quality control systems, and the installation of the Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) at the University of Liberia - UL Soil Testing, Plant and Water Analysis Laboratory under the European Union in Liberia-funded Soils4Liberia Project (February 2-9, 2026).

The training formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen national capacity for reliable soil testing and scientific data generation in Liberia.

A total of 19 participants from the University of Liberia - UL, the Ministry of Agriculture Liberia - MOA Liberia, and the Central Agricultural Research Institute benefited from hands-on technical sessions focused on soil analysis, laboratory quality control, and the operation of advanced analytical equipment. This initiative reinforces IITA’s commitment to building national expertise and supporting evidence-based agricultural transformation.

The newly installed AAS will significantly improve the precision and speed of soil nutrient analysis, enabling better planning and decision-making for sustainable land management. Through the Soils4Liberia Project, IITA continues to support Liberia in advancing soil-driven agriculture and strengthening resilient food systems.
