Feast Day Reflection: St. Peter Claver | September 9

Today, September 9, we join the Catholic Church in celebrating the feast of St. Peter Claver, — the “Apostle of the Enslaved” and a man whose life still challenges us to love in action.

Born: 1580 in Verdú, Catalonia, Spain
Died: September 9, 1654 in Cartagena, Colombia
Canonized: 1888 by Pope Leo XIII
Patron of: Colombia, African Americans, ministry to enslaved peoples, and human rights

In 1610, Peter Claver arrived in Cartagena — the main slave port in the Americas. Every week, ships would dock carrying men, women, and children in chains. While others turned away, Peter ran toward them.

For 40 years he did what no one else would:
1. Met them at the harbor with food, water, medicine, and dignity. He called them “the slaves of the slaves forever” because he chose to serve them.

2. Cared for the sick and dying - He learned their languages, bathed their wounds, and brought doctors when he could.

3. Defended their humanity - He preached that they were children of God, not property. He baptized over 300,000 people and fought against the cruelty of the slave trade.

4. Built community - He didn’t just preach. He set up groups to help the newly freed, visited prisons, and advocated for better treatment.

His motto said it all: “We must speak to them with our hands before we speak to them with our lips.”

St. Peter Claver reminds us that education and success mean nothing if we don’t use them to serve.

As alumni, we are called to the same spirit — to show up for the forgotten, to bring hope to difficult places, and to lead with compassion.

On this feast day, may we ask St. Peter Claver to intercede for us. May our alumni projects, contributions, and fellowship reflect the same love that saw Christ in every person he met.

St. Peter Claver, pray for us.

Happy Feast Day to all alumni of St. Peter Claver Catholic High School

Happy Father’s Day Message from the St. Peter Claver Catholic Alumni Association

Today we celebrate YOU — the first teachers, protectors, and quiet heroes in every child's story.

To the fathers who wake up early to drop kids at campus, who sacrifice so tuition is paid, who check homework even after a long day, who pray with their children and lead by example: we see you. Your strength builds character. Your love builds futures.

Like St. Peter Claver who served with humility and courage, you serve your families daily. The discipline, faith, and values you plant at home are the same ones the school nurture in class. SPCHSAA is strong because fathers like you stand behind us.

May God bless you with health, joy, and long life. May your children make you proud, and may you always know how deeply you’re appreciated — not just today, but every day.

From the administration, staff, students and alumni leadership of St. Peter Claver Catholic High School: Happy Father’s Day. You are loved. You are honored.

To the 12th Grade Class of St. Peter Claver Catholic High School:

Today, June 17, 2026, you wrote the last paper. The books can close. The pen can rest.

On behalf of the SPCCHS Alumni Leadership, we salute you. You endured months of study, late nights, financial pressure, and mental fatigue — and you still showed up. That alone is victory.

Through all our contributions this school year — from moral support, to the $54,000 LRD in direct aid, to prayers and motivation — we stood with you because your success is our pride.

We do not doubt you. We declare that you will all pass successfully and bring honor to St. Peter, to your families, and to Grand Bassa.

Go home with Pride.. Celebrate. Rejoice. You made us proud already.

Congratulations in advance....

For God and Country. For St. Peter Claver High

Official Condolence Message

With deep sorrow and a heavy heart, we announce the tragic passing of our former student, Daniel Drow, who lost his life in an accident around St. John yesterday.

Daniel left the school during his junior high years; and though his time with us was brief, Daniel remained part of the St. Peter's family. As an alumni family, we are grieved by this sudden loss. Just this past October 2025, Daniel joined us with so much life and joy during our Homecoming Day Celebration. His energy, smile, and presence that day are still fresh in our minds. His passing is a sobering reminder that life is fragile, and this earth is only a temporary place.

We also learned that a pastor lost his life in the same accident. We mourn with both families and everyone affected by this tragedy.

On behalf of the SPCCHSAA leadership and the entire Claverian family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Daniel’s family, the pastor’s family, and all who loved them. May the Almighty God comfort you, strengthen you, and grant you peace during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Daniel Drow. Once a Claverian, always a Claverian.

Alumni Spotlight - Episode 5

Today, we proudly celebrate one of our distinguished alumni, G. Moore, a visionary leader, accomplished professional, and proud son of Grand Bassa County, Liberia.

Clarence G. Moore graduated from St. Peter Claver Catholic High School in 2007, where he demonstrated academic excellence, discipline, and leadership qualities that would later shape his remarkable journey.

Driven by determination and a passion for growth, he earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Civil Engineering from Stella Maris Polytechnic in 2011. His career began with ArcelorMittal Liberia, where he contributed to infrastructure development and engineering projects that supported national progress.

Seeking greater opportunities to serve and grow, Clarence later migrated to the United States, where he proudly enlisted in the United States Army. His honorable military service strengthened his values of discipline, resilience, strategic leadership, and perseverance.

Further advancing his education, Clarence earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Occupational Health and Safety with emphasis in Environmental Management from Columbia Southern University in 2023. His graduate studies expanded his expertise in environmental sustainability, workplace safety, risk management, and leadership.

After completing his military service, Clarence returned home to Liberia with a renewed vision for national development through agriculture. He founded G. Moore Farm in Neekreen, Grand Bassa County, which has grown into one of the region’s largest and most impactful agricultural establishments. Through his work, he continues to create employment opportunities, support food security, empower local communities, and inspire a new generation of Liberian farmers.

Clarence G. Moore’s journey from civil engineer, to U.S. Army veteran, to agricultural entrepreneur reflects resilience, ambition, patriotism, and an unwavering commitment to uplifting Liberia.

As an Alumni Association, we are proud to celebrate his achievements and the example he continues to set for young people across Liberia and beyond.

Congratulations, Clearance
