Human rights are universal, inalienable rights designed to protect dignity, freedom and equality, as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Key examples include: the right to life, freedom from torture/slavery, equality before the law, privacy, fair trials, freedom of speech and education.

Every person in the world is entitled to fundamental, inalienable rights and freedoms from birth to death, regardless of nationality, s*x, religion, language or status. Inherent to all human beings, human rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education, and many more. Everyone is entitled to these rights without discrimination.

Based on dignity, equality, and mutual respect, these rights are designed by the International Human Rights Council USA to protect individuals from abuse and ensure that they can live with dignity, as set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
To protect individuals where justice, fairness, freedom, and truth are denied. To foster a culture of human rights by protecting and promoting rights in law, policy, and practice. IHRC USA works to protect all human rights for all people, empower individuals, help them realize these rights, and focus on the most pressing, grave, and chronic violations, and to actively protect individuals from abuses and promote rights through education and advocacy.

Globally, the United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) was established in 1946 to protect human rights.
Following this, on December 10, 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was officially adopted.

International and Global Organizations
• U.N. Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR): This was formed in 1946 and later restructured as the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in 2006.

• The United Nations declared December 10, 1948, as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the right to life for all people worldwide.

The important historical background and its evolutionary growth of the establishment of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) in 1946:

Important Historical Events

• Commencement: This was established by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in February 1946.
• First Meeting: Its first session took place in January 1947.
• Chairperson: Eleanor Roosevelt, the former First Lady of the United States, served as its first chairperson.
Historical Achievement
• Declaration of Human Rights: The most important task of this Commission was the creation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
• Adopted Date: This Declaration was officially adopted by the U.N. General Assembly on December 10, 1948.
• Human Rights Day: "World Human Rights Day" is celebrated every year on December 10 for countries around the world to commemorate this day.

Current Structural Change (From 2006 to Present)
• Restructuring: This Commission, which operated for 60 years, was dissolved on March 15, 2006, by a resolution of the U.N. General Assembly and took a new form.
• New Name: Currently, it is called the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
• Member States: The current Council consists of 47 member states elected on a rotational basis.
• Headquarters: It is located in the city of Geneva, Switzerland.
In its 61st regular session (HRC61) held in March 2026, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) debated severe human rights violations across various countries, passing new resolutions and issuing investigative commissions.

The main countries currently subject to the Council's direct investigation, monitoring, and special resolutions are listed below:

1. Palestine and Israel (Occupied Palestinian Territory)
• Current Status: Under Resolution 61/4 adopted on March 27, 2026, international humanitarian law violations in occupied Palestinian territories, including Gaza and East Jerusalem, are being severely monitored.
• Commission of Inquiry: The independent international Commission of Inquiry (COI) is ordered to submit a report on the legal consequences of supplying weapons, ammunition, and military parts to Israel.
2. Ukraine
• Investigation Body: The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine (COI Ukraine), established to investigate human rights violations in Ukraine following Russia's military invasion, continues to collect evidence.
3. Sudan
• Action: The investigation period of the Fact-Finding Mission (FFM), appointed to identify internal armed conflicts and atrocities against innocent people in Sudan, has been extended.
4. Iran
• Investigation: The Fact-Finding Mission on Iran (FFM Iran), which examines oppressive measures against women and human rights activists in Iran, continues to monitor conditions and report.
5. Myanmar
• Mechanism: The Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) actively operates to collect criminal evidence regarding violence against Rohingya people and human rights violations by the military regime.
6. Other Latin American and African Countries
• Venezuela & Nicaragua: Fact-Finding Missions (FFM Venezuela / GHRE Nicaragua) are deployed to investigate political vendettas and human rights violations in these countries.
• Afghanistan & Syria: Special commissions remain engaged in monitoring the denial of women's rights under Taliban rule in Afghanistan, and the long-standing civil war in Syria (COI Syria).
Current Global Challenges (2026)
• Financial Crisis: All these U.N. resolutions and investigative activities face severe challenges due to the heavy budget cuts and financial shortages faced by the U.N. Human Rights Office in 2026.
• Political Moves: Countries like Israel oppose the resolutions of this body and have taken steps to withdraw from their membership positions.
