Our next event is a field visit which you will find really exciting. The place is the Uma Oya Hydro Power Station that was most recently added to CEB's hydro station fleet. This is an underground power station constructed based on two tributaries of the Uma Oya in Uma Oya basin. The power plant was constructed under the Uma Oya Multi-Purpose Development Project. The power plant consists of two turbines of 60MW with 290 GWh energy potential. The power plant is not open to the public. So, this will be a rare opportunity for you to visit this power plant.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2024/2025 of the IESL Sabaragamuwa Provincial Chapter was held on 22nd January 2026 at Hotel Grand Guardian, Kuruwita, with the participation of chapter members and distinguished invitees. The meeting included the presentation of annual reports, review of chapter activities, and the election of the committee for the forthcoming term.

The event was further enriched with entertainment performances, creating a pleasant and engaging atmosphere for attendees and promoting fellowship among members. The AGM concluded successfully with renewed commitment to advancing engineering excellence and professional development in the Sabaragamuwa region.

Today (20th December 2025), the IESL Sabaragamuwa Chapter successfully carried out the Donation of School Bags programme for children affected by recent floods in Neelabemma Village, Karuwalagaswewa. This initiative aimed to support schoolchildren who are still facing difficulties after the disaster and to help them continue their education with confidence.

Our sincere appreciation goes to Eng. Shantha Perera (DGM at CEB-Samanala Complex) for coordinating this charity event, and to all committee members and IESL Sabaragamuwa Chapter members who generously donated and supported this programme, making it a success.

Together, we continue to serve the community beyond our professional responsibilities.

Even weeks after the recent flood disaster, we have identified that some areas still need urgent support. In the Neelabemma area, 75 students are in need of school bags to continue their education.

Understanding the importance of acting without delay, the IESL Sabaragamuwa Chapter will provide these school bags on 20th December. We kindly invite all members to join hands with us at this crucial time to support these students and their future.

The IESL Sabaragamuwa Chapter conducted an awareness session on PVC, UPVC, and roofing solutions in collaboration with the St. Anthony’s Group on 13th November at the Kethumathi Hotel and Banquet Hall, Ratnapura.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the St. Anthony’s Group for delivering a highly valuable and insightful session.
