Its ultimate goal is a drug free society where youth and elders are educated and are made aware of the destruction drugs can cause in whichever the form they are being introduced to our society. With this noble intension and with an agenda at its infancy, The MMM was established in 1984 with the motive of preventing crime (including Juveniles) induced and influenced by drug abuse. It was a prevent
ive mechanism as well as a correctional mechanism put in place to address an issue that was silently affecting the very core of the Sri Lankan society. Situated in a mesmerizing, inspiring and a healing environment, by 1987 MMM had grown to be the only rehabilitation centre in Sri Lanka that was faith based and existed while being enriched and nourished by the Buddhist philosophy. Today it is the sole organization in Sri Lankan with many centres addressing a diverse set of needs in drug abuse prevention and awareness building that practices a Therapeutic Community system and has won many national and international awards for its excellence. The organization caters to any individual with a need to cure himself of drug addiction, improve social wellbeing and /or to improve life skills without discrimination based on cast, race, s*x or religion. The organization has a diverse set of programmes apart from its core interests and has reached out to the community via a number of projects to prevent HIV and other social diseases and have further extended a helping hand to low income families to improve their lifestyle and have conducted alternative livelihood programmes. For youth seeking direction in their personal and professional life, the MMM has developed and implemented a leadership practice programme to ensure a better and brighter future. The organization has also endeavored to contribute to young children without parents via an orphanage and a pre-school.
