Problem statement

In the identified area of Nawimana, Devinuara and Thalalla GN Divisions it has been noticed that the communities have a number of families with no proper housing due to abject poverty. This situation calls for help to provide support for families that are not with decent kind of shelter above their head. There are about 100 families who need help on this aspect. This problem has

affected the education of the children in the said families too. To provide shelter to needy shanty dwellers by 25% in the identified villages. Proposed activities under the objective 1

1.1 Obtain statistics related to families living in dilapidated or poor housing.
1.2 Discussions with the families concerned
1.3 Gathering information to ascertain their capacities, and requirements, participation in relation to provide free labour.
1.4 Complete 17 housing units


The BOQ attached herewith has been submitted by a State Institute, the Housing Authority. According to the BOQ cost of one housing unit is Rs.1,508,321.10 x 17 units = Rs.25,641,458.70. The respective housing units are supposed to be built in the land allotments belonging to 17 selected beneficiaries (List of beneficiaries is attached herewith for information ). The skilled labour like masons carpenters, plumbers, electricians and the like will be assigned at the rate of one team per one unit so that all the units will be completed concurrently. Supervision of the construction will be observed by the Housing Authority, a state body that has expertise on the subject. The charges for supervision have been added already to the cost of the construction. It is suggested to set apart 2.5% of the total cost of the that is Rs.641,036.00 as contribution/ supervision charges to the implementing agency the Humanitarian Development Fund

Sustainability

Question of sustainability does not arise as this is a housing project. Maintenance of the houses built will be the responsibility of the beneficiaries after handing over by the HDF the implementation agency that is submitting the proposal

Environmental aspect. The proposed project will not have any negative impact on the environs of the area. Every housing unit will be constructed on the land allotments belonging to the respective recipients who living in a residential area. Additional housing unit built on the land or as a replacement for the existing dwelling will not pose an environmental threat. BANKER:

අපේ ඊළග ව්‍යායාමය මෙම අසරණ පවුලට නිවසක් තනා දිමයි. 2012 වසරෙ සිටම අපි උත්සහ කලා මෙි අරමුණ සාර්ථක කරගන්නග නමුත් එය කිරීමට නොහැකි උනා. අදටත් මෙි අසරණ පවුලට ජීවත්වන්නට නිවහනත් නැත. එනිසා මම තීරණය කලා නැවතත් මගේ අරමුණ සාර්ථක කර ගන්න උත්සහ කරන්න. මෙි අසරණයින්ට පිහිට වන්නට කැමතිනමි අප හා එක්වන්න. මෙම පව්ලට ආබාධිත දරැවෙක්ද සිටී්‍.

Request for funding assistance to a worthy course

The Humanitarian Development Foundation was formed with an idea of bringing relief to the underprivileged masses living in the southern province through a community development approach.

The activities they are geared to reach the intended targets are to establish a service center to introduce self employments and related training coupled with revolving fund system, housing programs, services to the disabled, schools, children’s homes and elders’ homes, helping school going children in their educational activities, to implement social welfare activities like Sil campaigns, Shramadana (free labour) campaigns and cultural programs and to help people in disasters.

Even though the activities are limited only to a few villages in the district of Matara of the Southern province of Sri Lanka the organization envisages to extend the services to some more communities living in other districts in the Southern Region namely Galle and Hambantota.

Most of the target families belong to poor income group and living in abject poverty. They can not meet their own basic needs not to mention the measures to make their ends meet. They need a helping hand to come out of their miseries until such time that they are on their own feet to fend for themselves.

Therefore, you are kindly invited to pay your kind attention and provide the necessary funding to impellent the project sent herewith. If the response is positive as expected the goodwill gesture will bring solace and relief to the target communities mentioned in the project proposal please.
