Return Our Own Lands to Us!
Let us strengthen the 22nd consecutive week of the protest by the people of Valikamam North!
📍 Jaffna – Valikamam North, Mayiliddy
As a continuation of the long-standing struggle for land rights by the people of Valikamam North, Jaffna, a continuous awareness-raising protest has been carried out in the Myliddy area for the 22nd consecutive week.
The people of Valikamam North have continued to struggle, democratically presenting their legitimate demands and drawing the attention of the government, calling for the return of their own lands.
More Than 36 Years of Land Loss
The people, who cultivated their own lands, achieved high levels of agricultural production, and improved their families’ economic well-being and livelihoods, have been forcibly separated from their fertile agricultural lands for more than 36 years.
These fertile lands, rich in soil suitable for agriculture, are the foundation of the people’s livelihoods and a source of hope for their future.
As a result of losing their lands, people are losing not only their economic rights but also their family livelihoods, social relationships, and future opportunities.
“Give us back our own lands!”
“Help us restore our livelihoods!”
“Government institutions and state forces that have unlawfully occupied our private lands must return our lands to us!”
These are the legitimate and democratic demands of the people who are struggling for their own lands.
Our Voice Joins the Struggle for Land Rights
We too continue to raise our voice as a voice for the people who have lost their lands and in support of their struggle for rights, thereby strengthening the ongoing awareness-raising protest undertaken to protect people’s rights to their own lands and livelihoods.
This is the time for the voices of the people who have been fighting for land rights for many years across the Northern and Eastern Provinces to come together.

Keppapulavu – Mullaitivu
Mullikkulam – Mannar
Sannar – Mannar
Mayilathamadu and Madhavanai – Batticaloa
and in many other areas, people continue to engage in democratic struggles to reclaim their lands.
The struggles of these people are not merely demands to obtain land. They are struggles for land rights, livelihood rights, economic rights, human rights, and social justice.
Our Support Will Continue!
We express our full support for the 22nd consecutive week of the awareness-raising protest by the people of Valikamam North and for all those across the Northern and Eastern regions who are fighting for their land rights.
The government must take the legitimate demands of the people into consideration and provide a just and sustainable solution to issues concerning private lands.
People’s own lands must be returned to them. Their right to restore their agriculture and livelihoods must be ensured.
We will continue to raise our voice as a voice for people who have lost their lands!
