Under the guidance of Hon. Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, and led by Mr. Suranjith Wewita, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), together with Ms. Malkanthi Rajapaksha, Director General of SLTDA, the “Surakuma” Social Security Pension Fund for Tourism Service Providers marks an important new step for our industry.

It was an honour to participate in this significant programme as the President of the Central Province Tourist Guide Lecturers’ Association. This initiative is a valuable step towards strengthening the future security and retirement protection of tourism service providers.

The Central Province Tourist Guide Lecturers Association was honoured to participate in the opening of the Matale Gem Fair, in collaboration with the Department of Trade, Commerce and Tourism, Central Province, and the Matale Gem Association.

As invited knowledge partners, we were proud to share our tourism expertise and explore how the gem industry can be better connected with visitors, local businesses, and the wider Central Province tourism experience.

This new initiative will take place every Saturday from 9.00 a.m. onwards, creating a valuable platform for gem trading, knowledge-sharing, networking, and collaboration.

With new leadership, a clear focus, and strong partnership among stakeholders, we look forward to supporting the growth of Matale’s gem heritage and tourism potential.

Proud to share that members of the Central Province Tourist Guide Lecturers Association participated in GeoPera’26, organised by the Department of Geography, University of Peradeniya, together with the Geography Students’ Society.

Under the theme, “A Sustainable World through Geographical Knowledge,” the exhibition highlighted important areas including GIS, remote sensing, modern mapping techniques, drone technology, climatology, watershed and coastal management, meteorology, biogeography, and soil geography.

Our association was allocated the 1.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. session, with the participation of 20 members. It was a valuable opportunity to expand our knowledge, connect with future professionals, and understand how geographical science and modern technology can strengthen responsible tourism in Sri Lanka.

Thank you to the University of Peradeniya and the organisers for providing this meaningful platform.
