Empowering resilience through international service

Kavini, a courageous survivor of the civil war, continues to inspire by turning challenges into opportunity. Together with seven determined women three of them also differently-abled she has built a small masala production venture in Poonakary, near Elephant Pass.

While producing curry powder, chilli powder, and more, their growth was limited due to reliance on external grinding facilities. Recognizing this need, the Rotaract Club of Jaffna Midtown, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Darwin, Australia, came together for a meaningful International Service Project.

We are proud to have provided a mini grinding machine and a packing machine marking the first such donation in Jaffna by Elephant Aid This initiative brings not only operational independence but also new opportunities for expansion and sustainability.

Special appreciation to Keerthana, Thanusan, and Alosius for successfully handing over the project, and heartfelt thanks to our generous donor from Darwin for making this impact possible.
Together, we are creating livelihoods, uplifting communities, and championing women’s empowerment 💫

The Rotaract Club of Jaffna Midtown is proud to support a remarkable 4th generation clay pot business that continues to thrive with dedication and resilience. Through this initiative, we successfully handed over tyre moulds and a rotating table, empowering the craftsmen to enhance their production and sustainability.

This inspiring business provides full-time employment to 5 individuals, including two differently abled workers, while also supporting livelihoods of workers from Trincomalee and Batticaloa. Their craftsmanship has reached beyond borders, exporting to Canada and Australia, alongside serving the local market.
The handover was carried out by our fellow Rotaractors Keethana and Seavitha 🤝

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous donors from Singapore and cities across Australia including Melbourne, Perth, and Darwin for making this impact possible.

Supporting Livelihoods, Sustaining Hope

Mr. Loganathan a dedicated dairy farmer from Urumpirai (9.5 km from Jaffna), lives with his wife Maithily and their daughter Logitha, who is currently pursuing her studies at a technical college.

With 20 cows as his only source of income, rising costs of essential cattle feed such as sesame oil cake, coconut oil cake, wheat corn bran, and groundnut bran posed a serious challenge to sustaining his livelihood.

Responding to his request, Rotaract Club of Jaffna Midtown stepped in to provide much needed support. The delivery was successfully carried out by Keerthana, Alosius, and Mayu, ensuring timely assistance reached the family.

A heartfelt thank you to our generous donor from Darwin, Australia for making this possible and helping protect a family's income and future.

Together, we continue to uplift communitiesone life at a time.

Phase 2

Our “Go Green, Save the Earth” project has been successfully completed at Ilavalai Mareesankoodal RCTMS.

Our team from the Rotaract Club of Jaffna Midtown came together to promote environmental awareness and create a greener space for the young learners. Through this initiative, we aim to inspire children to care for nature and understand the importance of protecting our planet from an early age.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported and contributed to making this phase a success. Together, we continue to take small steps toward a greener and more sustainable future.

Community Support Initiative

Mrs. Rajeeswary (51) from Sandilipay, Jaffna, is a mother of five and the sole breadwinner of her family. With her husband unable to work and children facing serious health challenges, she struggles to make ends meet by selling boiled palmyra and vegetables.

With support from a donor in Darwin, we aim to provide a chicken shed for egg production and a tarpaulin sheet to protect her goods.

✨ Children’s Wings 2025 ✨

On the 3rd of October 2025, in celebration of Children’s Day, the Rotaract Club of Jaffna Midtown successfully carried out “Children’s Wings” at Colombo Hindu Ladies College 💙

The day was filled with joy and creativity as we provided snacks and refreshments for the students, along with scratch papers that inspired them to express their imagination through painting 🎨

Watching their smiles and artistic talents unfold reminded us that every child deserves a chance to dream, create, and shine 🌈

Together, we continue to uplift young minds and spread happiness, one small act at a time 💫

Empowering Future Champions Through Sport
Velanai Central College, located 18.5 km from Jaffna and established in 1945, continues to nurture bright young minds. In our ongoing effort to uplift students’ physical and mental well-being, Rotaract Club of Jaffna Midtown proudly organized a meaningful sports gear donation initiative.

With the generous support of a donor from Darwin, Australia, students received a variety of sports equipment including footballs, volleyballs, beach sports gear, badminton, tennis, cricket, and Elle essentials

The donation was officially handed over by our dedicated team members President Seavitha, along with Keethana and Gogul marking a special moment of encouragement for these aspiring young athletes.

We believe that empowering youth through sports not only builds strength but also fosters discipline, teamwork, and confidence.

Supporting a Family in Need

Mrs. Francis Kiriyashakhti aged 51, a widow from Urumpirai, lives with her 17 year old son Nishanthan, a student of Urumpirai Saiva Tamil Vidyalayam who is currently awaiting his O/L results, and her 89 year old father. She earns a living through manual work such as house cleaning and gardening, but the income is not enough to fully support the household.

Through the Rotaract Club of Jaffna Midtown, support was extended by providing dry rations and establishing a chicken shelter with chickens to help the family build a small and sustainable livelihood.

The handover was completed yesterday by Anojan and Gogul, with the generous support of a donor from Darwin, Australia.

We are grateful to everyone involved in making this meaningful initiative possible and bringing hope to a deserving family.
