Women’s Centre Vavuniya Branch – Now Open! 🌸
We are proud and happy to announce the official opening of the new Women’s Centre Branch in Vavuniya. This is an important step forward in expanding our work to support women workers, strengthen leadership, and promote rights and dignity in the Northern Province.

This new branch will serve as a safe and supportive space for women to come together, raise their voices, and build collective power for justice and equality.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported us and joined this special moment. Together, we continue building a stronger movement for women’s rights.

✨ A new beginning in Vavuniya — towards empowerment and solidarity.

Empowering 45 women leaders and activists in Kandy on GBV, discrimination, the continuum of violence, and gender-sensitive state services — strengthening feminist leadership grounded in ILO C190 and the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, including UNSCR 1325, 1889, 2122, and 2467.
We connected GBV prevention to post-conflict peacebuilding and women’s economic empowerment, advancing a vision where women lead with justice, dignity, and solidarity. 💪✨

Another step forward. Another circle of strength. 💜

The Fabrics of Fairness journey continued in Vavuniya, where we successfully completed another capacity-building workshop with women workers from the community.

Women came together to learn, share, and reflect on:

✨ Labour rights and workplace protections
✨ Gender equality & freedom from violence and harassment
✨ Leadership and collective organising
✨ Access to justice and speaking out with confidence

What we witnessed was more than a training — it was solidarity in action.
Stories were shared, voices grew louder, and new leaders emerged.

Each workshop strengthens not just knowledge, but courage, unity, and power.

From Katunayake to Vavuniya, we continue weaving a network of informed and organised women workers across Sri Lanka. 🌿

When women rise together, change becomes unstoppable.

As part of the post-Ditwah crisis recovery response, the Women’s Centre facilitated an Art and Music Therapy programme for women workers in Kandy District, creating a safe and supportive space for emotional healing, stress relief, and collective resilience.

Women affected by displacement, income loss, and trauma engaged in guided creative expression, group music sessions, and peer sharing circles. These activities supported:

✔️ Psychosocial wellbeing and stress reduction
✔️ Rebuilding confidence and solidarity among women workers
✔️ Strengthening community support networks
✔️ Restoring dignity beyond immediate material relief

Recovery is not only physical and economic — it is emotional and social. Integrating psychosocial care ensures women are not just surviving crises, but regaining strength and agency.

The Women’s Centre remains committed to holistic, feminist, and worker-centred recovery approaches that prioritise both wellbeing and rights.

Standing with Women Workers of Pallekale FTZ After Floods and Landslides ✊🏽💜

Women garment workers in the Pallekale Free Trade Zone were severely affected by the floods and landslides following Cyclone Ditwah. Many lost their income, safe transport, and their homes were badly damaged, forcing them to stay in temporary shelters, including religious places.

In response, we carried out an essential dry-ration distribution to support women workers and their families during this difficult time.

This is more than relief — it is solidarity in action. Together with our partners and volunteers, we continue to stand with women workers to protect dignity, livelihoods, and the right to a life free from crisis and neglect.

This initiative was funded by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation e.V. with funds from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Through the Fabrics of Fairness project, our Labour & Human Rights workshops empowered women in the apparel sector to better understand and claim their rights at work.

The sessions explored:

✔️ Women’s specific labour rights and the everyday violations they face
✔️ Employers’ legal responsibilities under national and international standards
✔️ Practical ways to seek justice and access legal remedies
✔️ How laws can become powerful tools for collective organising and change

Our 3rd programme in the Pallekale apparel sector created a safe space for women workers to speak openly about dignity, solidarity, and resisting exploitation.

Together, we are stitching strength, awareness, and resistance into every workplace.

Essential Dry Ration Distribution for Plantation Women Workers – Central Province 🌿

Women workers in the plantation sector were among the hardest hit by Cyclone Ditwah. In response, we carried out an essential dry-ration distribution for affected women and their families in Madolkale, Panwila, and Kelabokka in the Central Province.

These relief packs were provided to support women who lost income, access to food, and basic security due to the floods — reaffirming our commitment to dignity, care, and feminist solidarity in times of crisis.

Together with our partners, members and staff, we stand with plantation women workers and continue to ensure that no woman is left behind. 💜✊🏽
