Abhayagiri Sangha Foundation To continue Abhayagiri and Nalanda Tradition Present day world is faced with many social, political and environmental problems among many other fields.

Mankind is suffering due to wars, civil strife, racial/religious factional conflicts and environmental hazards. Fear and suspicion reigns almost all over the world. People are threatened with all types of sicknesses, disasters, accidents, conflicts which might occur anywhere at any time. There is insecurity all over and the humans are heading towards catastrophe day by day. However, Buddhism provi

des practical solutions to most of these problems faced by the present day world. Most of the other religious traditions also provide many possible solutions to the present day problems. Unfortunately at present even followers of some religions, all of which are meant to promote peace and wellbeing for the humans, are at war with each other. Sometimes followers of different sects of the same religion are at war or are killing each other. There is distrust among individuals, groups, societies, nations etc. resulting in constant fears and suspicion. Although Buddhism and many other religions provide solutions to the problems faced by the world in the present century and the future, sufficient attempt is not made to identify practical solutions from the religious teachings. There are several associations which

try to bring together followers of different sects of the same religion or the followers of many religious traditions, at present. However, an institution which provides for continuous interaction among various traditions of Buddhism as well as with other religious traditions and schools of thought, do not exist. This gap should be filled for finding solutions to the human problems of the present day. Therefore, a group of enthusiasts who felt the need of identifying solutions provided by Buddhism for the present day problems has promoted the AHAYAGIRI SANGHA FOUNDATION in order to establish an organization which will provide for continues cordial dialogue among Theravada Buddhist tradition and other Buddhist traditions, with a view to providing opportunities and facilities for more wide cooperation among all Buddhist traditions and friendly dialogue with all religions and schools of thought.
