This is the story of Rosie. A dog that lost her family in a landslide and found a new home. 🌹

On December 15th we visited a major landslide in Gangoda, Udadumbara.

Beside her destroyed home we saw a female dog crying. She had been there since November 27th, when a landslide occured that took her whole family. Due to her behaviour rescuers were able to find the family beneath the rubble although sadly there were no survivors.

Rosie was visibly exhausted and distressed. She had been fed by local people since the landslide, people who are also struggling for food. It was clear she needed a new home where she will be taken care of.

We brought her to one of the volunteer's family home, where one of Rosies puppies was already waiting 🩷

Just planting new saplings isn't enough. Forests are alive and complex and it is very difficult to restore them to their original state once they have been destroyed. So while reforestation is great, conservation is even better.

Techniques such as pruning can be great for farmers to help boost their yields. However, if used without foresight proper consideration can cause major issues long term. Which is why it's better to think twice and cut once!

Each type of tree in our forest garden plays its own key role and acts as a vital part of the cycle of life in the forest. Which is why we must make sure to use our resources sustainably, not just for ourselves but for the upcoming generations and for all the creatures that rely on them.
