Clean Kandy Force collected 196 waste bags of trash in under 6hrs at the Polgolla - Lewella area with a focus at the Lewella bridge.
Pretty darn impressive today as we collected 196 bags of waste off the Mahaweli river at Lewella in Kandy.
Thanks to the amazing team from Clean Kandy Force , Colombo International School Kandy, Trinity College - Kandy, Sri Lanka and other volunteers.
What’s more is we separated 90% of the waste at the site and also counted brands of manufacturers whose waste we collected.
More direct actions coming through based on our learnings.
1. Informing manufacturers of their environmental footprint after consumption and their responsibilities I e directly contributing to cost of waste management
2. Creating a Taskforce, digitized and synergized across CEA, ministry, provincial council, district planning, Local Govt’s, RDA, Mahaweli, irrigation, police and MCs etc to tackle waste issues breaking information silos and power scope sharing issues and responsibility misconceptions.
3. Enforce stricter enforcement of existing laws for irresponsible and criminal waste dispensing and adding new spot fines for more categories (drafts sent to relevant authorities already)
