The Law Students Association of Sri Lanka (LSASL)/ ALSA Sri Lanka is an independent non-political and non-profit body composed of the law student populace in Sri Lanka. We are also th
e National Chapter of Asian Law Students Association (ALSA), which is an amalgamation of law students across 16 Asian countries. We work with the Australian Law students association ALSA and the European Law students Association (ELSA). Established in 2009 by the inspiring jurist and our mentor, the late professor C.G Weeramanthry, and LSASL is one of the most prestigious student association representing all private and governmental legal education institutions. Our Association is built with the purpose of focusing on the development of the social character of the law students. We believe this in turn will improve the quality of future lawyers and the legal system in Sri Lanka. We facilitate academic co-ordination and co-operation among the vast number of Sri Lankan law students receiving their education at various institutions. This helps establish, maintain contact and promote goodwill and collaboration between law students both locally and internationally. Over the years our projects have included the organization of several legal aid clinics, legal awareness and law talk programmes, across the country. One of our proudest achievements to this date, include the organization of annual Asia Law Students Association Conference in 2015. This event hosted over a hundred law students, from several member states. The "Law is Light", a series of trilingual discussions initiated in 2020 to educate the general public of the law, was a first of its kind by law students in Sri Lanka. Following the numerous social programmes conducted by us since our inception, we gained the ALSA membership in 2013. This in turn helped us gain recognition with the European and Australian Law student’s associations. We continue to represent all law students across the country and work towards building a strong legal network. Veritas, Fedelitas, Integritas
