Yet another very successful 'Welcome to our Mosque' Program took place at the Nawalapitiya Town Mosque yesterday.
The Mosque Tour was organised by the Centre for Islamic Studies Harmony Center in association with the Muslim Women's Research and Action Forum and YMMA Nawalapitiya supported by Diakonia.
Around 400 visitors of other faiths attended the event including local government officials, public officers from the AGA's Office, police personnel, medical professionals, school teachers and students and others from all walks of life. The Mosque Tour included a Guided Tour of the Mosque, Prayer demos, Islam Q & A, Poster Walkthrough, Book Corner, Henna Corner, Traditional Muslim Dress and Hijab try-on Corner, Free Calligraphy of Visitors' names, and Serving of Traditional Muslim Foods.
Asiff Hussein, Vice President, Outreach, CIS Harmony Center observed that it was a pleasure to have organised a Mosque Tour in Nawalapitiya which is known as "Peace Town" as it has never known a single instance of ethnic violence despite the fact that all major communities here are more or less equally represented.
He thanked the Trustees of the Nawalapitiya Town Jumma Masjid headed by Umar Mauroof for their exceptional support, YMMA Youth Team headed by Mohamed Shukri for a great job done, United Muslim Women’s Forum headed by Fathima Shibna which handled the Mehndi and Dress Corner and Jamiah Naleemiah and Haqqaniya Arabic College for their continued support in providing volunteers for the Mosque Tour and Calligraphists and the sponsors of the event, the Muslim Women's Research and Action Forum supported by Diakonia.
He especially thanked their team of Mosque Tour Guides headed by Mohamed Fawaz and Calligraphy Team headed by Adhil Ahamed.
