Mosquito Nets Handed Over to Base Hospital Elpitiya! 🦟🚫

Last week, KFHI handed over 40 mosquito nets to the Base Hospital Elpitiya, following a request from the MOH Elpitiya and the Divisional Secretariat.

The event was attended by the Divisional Secretary, the Acting Base Hospital Superintendent, and local health staff. Through this support, we hope to provide a safer environment for both patients and medical staff at the hospital. We extend our sincere thanks to all local authorities for their cooperation.

As Dengue fever is currently spreading in Sri Lanka, we kindly urge everyone to take care. Please make sure to use mosquito nets at home and keep your surroundings clean to prevent mosquito breeding. Wish you all stay safe and healthy! ❤️

Keenakelle Water Supply Project Completed! 🚰✨

We are happy to announce the completion of the Keenakelle Water Supply Project today.

Located at an altitude of about 1,200 meters, the Keenakelle community has faced water shortages for a long time. Whenever the water ran out, residents had to walk long distances to collect water for their families. To solve this problem, KFHI provided new water tanks and pipeline materials.

The true success of this project comes from the amazing community support. The villagers worked hard together, moving soil and digging the ground to install the pipelines. Thanks to this great teamwork, over 110 households can now enjoy a steady supply of clean water every day.

For the long-term sustainability of the project, the Keenakelle community will take the lead in managing and maintaining this water system in the future. We are proud to see the community leading their own village's development.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Keenakelle community and everyone who worked with us. We hope this clean water brings health and happiness to all the families in Keenakelle! 🤝❤️

🌾 Turning Hope into Harvest - A Brighter Future for Malapolagama Farmers! ✨

Behind every successful harvest is the tireless dedication of a farmer. Today, we took a major step forward in making that hard work a little easier and a lot more rewarding for the Malapolagama Farmer Organization! 🚜❤️

Thanks to the generous funding of KOICA and the dedicated coordination of KFHI, we successfully distributed a suite of essential agricultural machinery to local farming families under the “Sustainable potato crop production and Income Enhancement project through Cooperative value chain improvement” project.

To help modernize their fields and scale up their production, farmers received,

📈 Growing Income, Supporting Families

This isn't just about handing over tools—it’s about sustainable empowerment. By reducing grueling manual labor and cutting production costs, this equipment is a direct investment in the pockets of our farmers. Improved yields mean enhanced household incomes and a more secure, prosperous life for their families and children. 🏡🌱

We extend our deepest gratitude to KOICA and KFHI for believing in the potential of rural communities and planting the seeds for long-term economic growth. 🤝🌍

Water Survival Swimming Program 🌊🏊‍♂️

KFHI Elpitiya Office and the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) of Sri Lanka jointly conducted a Survival Swimming Program for local children.

The southern region of Sri Lanka frequently experiences floods and other natural disasters during the rainy season. Through this program, children learned essential water safety skills and how to respond calmly in emergency situations.

Seeing the children participate with enthusiasm, we felt that this program was more than just an activity—it is a valuable learning experience that can help protect their lives and safety in the future. 💙

We will continue working alongside local communities to help children grow up in a safer and healthier environment. 🌱✨

🌍 Celebrating World Environment Day in Welimada🌱

Our youth aren't just the future—they are today's leading voices for climate resilience!

On June 5th, 2026, the KFHI Welimada Team joined forces with the incredible students, teachers, and School Committee of Welimada Central College to host a powerful World Environment Day Commemoration and Public Awareness Campaign.
With 150 students taking the lead as newly minted Environmental Ambassadors, we took our climate mitigation message straight to the heart of Welimada Town!

🚶‍♂️ Shouting Out for the Planet

Following an inspiring awareness session at the school, 181 passionate participants marched through the streets of Welimada Town carrying banners, posters, and placards championing:

• 🌲 Deforestation prevention and tree planting
• 💧 Protecting rivers, streams, and natural waterways from pollution
• 🛑 Stopping risky land cutting on hilly slopes to prevent landslides
• ♻️ Embracing the 5R Concept (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover/Rot)

🎭 Climate Change, Center Stage!

To bridge the gap between complex science and daily life, our talented students performed a captivating street drama at the Welimada Main Bus Stand and town center. Through storytelling and creative acting, they beautifully drove home the importance of proper waste segregation, dropping the habit of public spitting/betel chewing for communal hygiene, and ditching single-use plastics.

✨ The Ripple Effect

By equipping these young leaders with public advocacy and communication skills, this campaign has successfully planted the seeds of environmental responsibility across entire neighborhoods, local businesses, and commuter networks. Together, we are building a cleaner, greener, and more climate-resilient Welimada!
