Democracy Safari is an experiential learning initiative exploring how democracy, governance, and sustainability intersect with real-life environmental and community challenges.

🔍 Key Focus Areas • Marine & coastal environmental protection • Coastal governance & public institutions • Fisheries livelihoods & harbor infrastructure • Human–Elephant Conflict and governance responses

Planned Field Visits 📌 Galle: Marine Environment Protection Authority, Kapu Ela, Magalle Beach, Dewata Beach, Jungle Beach 📌 Matara: Matara Fort, Gandara & Kudawella Fishing Harbours 📌 Hambantota: Hambantota Harbor & Human–Elephant Conflict–affected areas

🎯 What We Aim To Do
✔ Understand governance challenges on the ground
✔ Engage with communities and public institutions
✔ Document issues for advocacy and awareness
✔ Promote democratic, sustainable, people-centered solutions

Democracy Safari is a learning and documentation-based programme. At the end of the field visit, participants are expected to submit a reflective and creative output based on their observations and learning during the visit.

Reflection Focus Areas Participants should reflect on (but are not limited to):

· What they observed during the field visit
· Key governance, environmental, or social challenges identified
· What government institutions and authorities can do to address these issues
· Possible policy, governance, or community-led solutions
· Personal learning and reflections from the Democracy Safari experience

Format of Submission Participants may choose any ONE creative format, including but not limited to:

· Written content (short story, report, article, blog post, or reflection paper)
· Social media content (comprehensive Facebook post, photo story, or thread)
· Digital content (short video, TikTok, Instagram reel, or mini-documentary)

Are you a professional, youth leader, or activist passionate about democracy and good governance? Volunteer Initiatives for Election Watch (VIEW) and AFRIEL Youth Network are excited to announce the Call for Applications for the 2nd Batch of our Training of Trainers (TOT) Program 2026/27!

This comprehensive, one-year program is designed to build a new generation of trainers capable of promoting participatory democracy, accountability, and the right to information across Sri Lanka.

✨ What’s in it for you?

Certification: Become a certified national-level civic educator and community trainer.

Expertise: Gain in-depth knowledge in 15 key thematic areas, including election law and governance.

Opportunity: Conduct nationwide training sessions (at least 50 sessions within a year) after successful completion.

Empowering Young Women for Human Rights & Good Governance! 💜

We recently conducted the Internship Program Workshop on Human Rights and Good Governance (2025/26) for young girls across the island. The workshop focused on enhancing knowledge about civic rights, democratic participation, and leadership skills. A big thank you to all participants and mentors who made this session inspiring and impactful!

මානව හිමිකම් සහ යහපාලන වැඩසටහන (2025/26) යටතේ තරුණ කාන්තාවන් සඳහා සංවිධානය කළ පුහුණු වැඩමුළුව පසුගියදා සාර්ථකව අවසන් විය. මෙම වැඩමුළුවෙන් දේශපාලන අවබෝධය, පුරවැසියන්ගේ අයිතිවාසිකම්, නායකත්ව හා සමාජ සක්‍රීයභාවය පිළිබඳව තරුණ කාන්තාවන් අතර දැනුම වර්ධනය විය.

நாம் சமீபத்தில் மனித உரிமைகள் மற்றும் நல்லாட்சிப் பயிற்சி (2025/26) பட்டறையை இளம்பெண் இளைஞர்களுக்காக நடத்தியோம். இதில் குடிமக்கள் உரிமைகள், ஜனநாயக பங்கேற்பு மற்றும் தலைமைத்துவ திறன்களை மேம்படுத்துவதே முக்கிய நோக்கம்.
