A day full of joy, unity, and friendship! 🌞🎉

The IESL Sinhala and Tamil New Year Celebration 2026 – Surya Mangalya was successfully held on 25th April 2026 at the Royal College Primary Grounds. Jointly organized by the Civil Engineering Sectional Committee and the Women Engineers' Forum of IESL, the event featured a variety of vibrant activities that brought everyone together in true festive spirit.

It was truly heartwarming to witness the celebration of our rich cultural traditions and the strong sense of community shared by all.

The Women Engineers Forum (WEF) successfully conducted a valuable technical lecture on “Cyclone Gabrielle – Flood Warning System in New Zealand.” on 16 Feb 2026.
The session provided important insights into:
🔹 Delivering timely and accurate flood warnings
🔹 Strengthening coordinated operational frameworks
🔹 Enhancing multi-agency communication systems
🔹 Lessons learned on early preparedness and resilient infrastructure
🔹 Recovery strategies and disaster risk reduction improvements
New Zealand, being highly vulnerable to cyclones and flooding, has developed a comprehensive Flood Warning Manual, robust forecasting systems, and structured activation processes. These practices offer valuable lessons for improving our own response mechanisms to similar extreme weather events.
A heartfelt appreciation to Eng. (Mrs.) Mangala Wickramanayake, Past Chairperson of WEF and former Director General of the Coast Conservation Department, for delivering an insightful and impactful lecture.
