As Earth passes through the debris trail of Comet Thatcher, tiny cosmic particles enter our atmosphere at speeds of nearly 48 km/s, creating brilliant streaks of light ✨
Peaking on April 21–22, the Lyrid Meteor Shower may bring 15–20 meteors per hour, with occasional fireballs and glowing trails that linger in the night sky 🌌
⏰ When to watch:
The best time is after midnight on April 21, with peak activity between 2:00 AM and 5:30 AM on April 22 🌙
📍 Where & how to watch:
From places like Dambulla or anywhere in the Central Province, you have a great chance—especially away from streetlights.
Look toward the northeast sky and find the bright star Vega rising late in the evening ✨

🌕 𝐋𝐘𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐎𝐏𝐄 — 𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐖𝐎𝐋𝐅 🐺

The image of the werewolf portrayed in 20th-century movies has become the most widely recognized and has created a different as well as new mythological creature. Early folklore used magic charms (such as a belt or salve) to change a human being into a werewolf; however, by establishing the idea of "Lycanthropy" - the disease of being infected by werewolves through an animal bite (or scratch) - modern film has initiated the development of today's lycanthrope.

As a rule-of-thumb, there are two defining traits of the modern Hollywood lycanthrope: being a victim at all times, and the Full Moon being a trigger. The Full Moon works as a celestial clock triggering the change from man to beast and returning from beast to man. The light of the Full Moon is not only a visual element but an actual triggering mechanism for the breaking of bones and the sprouting of hair; thus, while in werewolf mode, the mind of the human is completely submerged by the animal instincts.

Culturally, the Hollywood lycanthrope suggests a fear of "the beast within" and a lack of self-control. It implies that even if a person is completely civilized, he has a dark/passive side that could be (unfortunately) unleashed by external factors. The Hollywood werewolf has become the predominant model by which all other contemporary werewolf tales are based.

Hollywood werewolf යනු ප්‍රසිද්ධම අනුවාදය වන අතර එය බොහෝ දුරට 20 වන සියවසේ සිනමාව විසින් නිර්මාණය කරන ලද්දකි. ජනප්‍රවාද කෙසේවෙතත්, නූතන මාධ්‍ය "ලයිකැන්ත්‍රොපි" යන සංකල්පය දරුණු රෝගයකට සමාන කලේය. එය බොහෝවිට ඛේදජනක සංසිද්ධියක් වශයෙන්ද, ඔවුන්ගේ කැමැත්තට එරෙහිව රාක්ෂයෙකු බවට පත්වන සාමාන්‍ය මිනිසෙකුගේ කතාවක් ගම්‍ය කලේය.

මෙම මිථ්‍යාවේ ප්‍රධානම ලක්ෂණය වන්නේ පුරසඳ ප්‍රේරකයක් වශයෙන් පරිවර්තනය සඳහා යොදා ගෙන ඇති ආකාරයයි. සඳෙහි ආලෝකය හුදෙක්ම ප්‍රේරකයකට එහා ගිය; අස්ථි බිඳී ගොස්, ලොම් මතුවෙමින් සහ නිය දත් යනාදිය පවා වෙනස් වෙමින් ඔහුව වෘකයෙකු බවට පත් කරන විශාල සාධකයකි.

සංකල්පමය වශයෙන් Hollywood werewolf නිරූපණය කරන්නේ අභ්‍යන්තර මෘගයා සහ ස්වයං පාලනය අතර පවතින ඝට්ටනයයි. එයින් ඇඟවෙන්නේ වඩාත්ම ශිෂ්ට සම්පන්න පුද්ගලයාට පවා බාහිර බලවේග මගින් උලුප්පාලිය හැකි අඳුරු පැත්තක් ඇති බවයි. මනුෂ්‍යත්වයේ සුදු සහ කලු පැතිකඩ එකට මුසු කරන අළු පැහැ දෘෂ්ටි කෝණයක් පිලිබදව මෙහිදී අප සාකච්ඡා කරන්නෙමු.

🌕 𝐒𝐊𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐄𝐑 — 𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐈𝐏𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐒 🐺

The Versipellis is a captivating fantasy rooted in ancient Roman superstitions surrounding fear, horror, and transformation. The term itself refers to someone who can not only change form but literally 'turn' their skin inside out in order to expose their hidden fur as a wolf. One of the most well-known accounts of how this takes place is found in Petronius’ Satyricon, in which we read about a soldier who turns to a wolf on his way to meet friends by changing shape in a cemetery.

The moon plays a central role in the Versipellis rite and is seen more as an empowering source than a 'curse' on those who perform it. The soldier in Petronius’ myth waits for an evening where the moon shines brightly enough as if it were mid-day before beginning the transformation. He takes all of his clothes off and urinates in a circle (to act as a protection against intruders) before using the moon’s light to instantly change into a wolf.

The myth here conveys Roman fascination with the liminal space (between the human and animal kingdom or between civilization and nature). Whereas today we think of werewolves as being uncontrollable, the ancient Roman concept of a Versipellis was capable of retaining much of their human willfulness while in wolf form, using their wolf state to achieve certain outcomes and/or as a vehicle for exerting predatory power.

Versipellis යනු ත්‍රාසය මූල බීජය කරගත් තවත් රෝම මිථ්‍යා ප්‍රබන්ධයකි. මොවුන් එක් ආකාරයක Skin Walker කොට්ඨාසයක් වන අතර සම තුලින් බලය භාවිතා කරයි. මෙය සිදුවන ආකාරය පිළිබඳ වඩාත් ප්‍රසිද්ධ වාර්තාවක් පෙට්‍රෝනියස්ගේ සැටිරිකන්(Petronius’ Satyricon) හි සඳහන් වේ, එහි සොල්දාදුවෙක් තම මිතුරන් හමුවිමට යන අතරතුර කනත්තක් අසලදී සිදුවන චර්මරූපනයක් (Skinning into) ගැන කියැවේ.

Versipellis යනු තවත් එක් ශාපයකට එහා ගිය පලිගැනීමේ සංකේතයක් ලෙස දැක්වේ. පෙට්‍රෝනියස්ගේ මිථ්‍යාවේ සොල්දාදුවා චර්මරූපණය ආරම්භ කිරීමට පෙර සඳෙහි ප්‍රබල කලාවක් සම ගැටෙන තෙක් බලා සිටින අතර, ඔහු තම ඇඳුම් සියල්ල ගලවා රවුමක මුත්‍රා කරයි. (ආක්‍රමණිකයින්ට එරෙහිව කෙරෙන යම් කෙම් ක්‍රමයක් ලෙස) චන්ද්‍රයාගේ ආලෝකය භාවිතා කර නිමේශයකින් ක්ෂණිකව වෘකයෙකු බවට පත්වේ.

මෙම මිථ්‍යාව මගින් රෝමවරුන් තුළ තිබූ අන්තර් ලෝක පිලිබඳ කුතුහලය විදහා පායි. වර්තමානයේ Werewolf සතුන් පාලනයෙන් තොර සංකල්පයක් ලෙස සිතූ මුත්, Versipellis පිළිබඳ පුරාණ රෝම සංකල්පයට අනුව ඔවුන් චර්මරූපණයෙන් පසුව වුවත් පියවි මනසකින් සිට ඇති බවත් එම බලය තමාට අවශ්‍ය පරිදි භාවිතා කර ඇති ආකාරයපිලිබඳ කියා දෙයි.

🌕 𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃 𝐎𝐅 𝐆𝐎𝐃 — 𝐕𝐈𝐋𝐊𝐀𝐂𝐈𝐒 🐺

In Latvian folklore, Vilkacis is one of the main characters. In English, the word Vilkacis translates as being “Wolf Eyed.” More often than not, the Vilkacis are considered a neutral or helpful entity rather than an evil creature. It is believed that the Vilkacis were once human beings who gained their ability to transform into wolves for the purpose of retrieving lost cattle, finding buried treasure, and defending their communities from supernatural threats.

The Vilkacis have a strong connection to the moon. Their legend is closely interwoven with the lunar calendar and lunar festival days. They are often described as being “Moon Warriors” or “Moon Children” who transform during the course of high-energy evenings throughout the year. Additionally, it has been reported that some Vilkacis are referred to as “Hell Hounds” because they travel to the underworld during full moons in order to fight witches and prevent them from stealing the earth’s bounty.

Many believe that the legend of the Vilkacis presents a different theory of werewolves and the condition of being a werewolf. Rather than being portrayed as a curse and something to fear, the transformation was viewed as spirit weight and a contribution to society through service. As a result, the Vilkacis were able to be good agents of nature and through the power of the moon, were given the ability to protect the living and defend against the deceased.

ලැට්වියානු ජනප්‍රවාදයේ, විල්කාසිස් යනු ප්‍රධාන ජනප්‍රවාද වලින් එකකි. ඉංග්‍රීසියෙන්, විල්කාසිස් යන වචනය "Wolf Eyed" ලෙස පරිවර්තනය වේ. බොහෝ විට, විල්කාසිස් නපුරු ජීවියෙකු ලෙස නොව උපකාරශීලී සත්ත්වයෙකු ලෙස සඳහන් වේ. විල්කාසිස් යනු පෙර සිටම මිනිසුන් වූ අතර, නැතිවූ ගවයන් සොයා දීම, නිධාන සොයා ගැනීම සහ ගම්මුන් අද්භූත තර්ජන වලින් ආරක්ෂා කිරීම සඳහා වෘකයන් බවට පරිවර්තනය වීමේ හැකියාව ලබා ගත් ආරක්ෂකයින් පිරිසක් බව විශ්වාස කෙරේ.
