Empowering Future Careers | SkillUp Sri Lanka – St. Anne’s Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Wattala

The SkillUp Sri Lanka – Modern Career Guidance and Skill Development Awareness Programme was successfully conducted on 19 October 2026 at St. Anne’s Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Wattala, engaging Advanced Level (A/L) students in an inspiring and insightful career exploration experience.

The programme featured an engaging peer-to-peer session led by the young team of the Future Lanka Research & Development Foundation (FLRDF), followed by the key session conducted by Mr. Dian Baduge, Director of FLRDF, who highlighted the importance of identifying individual strengths, aligning personal interests with A/L subject choices, and preparing for the evolving job market.

Adding valuable academic and industry perspectives, Mr. L.M.D. Dilantha Deva Adithiya, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of KIU University, and Ms. Anuththara Dikovita, Lecturer at the Faculty of Computing, APIIT, shared practical insights and case studies on emerging career opportunities across diverse sectors.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Rev. Sr. Principal, and dedicated teachers of St. Anne’s Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Wattala, for their invaluable cooperation and support.

Exploring Future Pathways in Life Sciences | AFTER A/L CAREER WEEK 2026 – PRE-LIFE SCIENCES PROGRAMME

As part of After A/L Career Week 2026 – Industry & Academic Opportunity Exploration Programme Series, a special Pre-Life Sciences Programme was conducted on 17 September 2026 at the University of Staffordshire, in collaboration with APIIT, providing students with opportunities to explore biomedical sciences, molecular forensics, laboratory-based learning, and diverse career pathways within the life sciences sector.

The programme featured an insightful session by Dr. Ranga S. Jayakody, Consultant and Head, who introduced students to the diverse career opportunities available within the life sciences stream, helping them understand potential professional pathways and emerging opportunities in the field.

Students also gained valuable industry insights into Molecular Forensics through a session by Ms. Amalya Usgodaarachchi, Scientist – Molecular Forensics, Genetech, Colombo. Drawing on her professional experience, she explored molecular forensics as a specialised career pathway and introduced students to its practical applications and real-world significance.

The programme further featured a series of laboratory-based practical sessions introducing students to computational chemistry and biomedical science-related applications. These sessions were conducted by Dr. Vindya Udalamaththa, Senior Lecturer; Ms. Shakila Rathnayake, Consultant Lecturer; and Ms. Tharushi Wijethunga, Laboratory Demonstrator/Technician, providing students with valuable exposure to practical scientific learning and laboratory-based approaches.

Through expert guidance, industry experience, and hands-on learning, the programme encouraged students to broaden their understanding of life sciences and explore the diverse academic and professional opportunities available within the field.

Building Tomorrow Through Engineering | AFTER A/L CAREER WEEK 2026 – PRE-ENGINEERING PROGRAMME

As part of After A/L Career Week 2026 – Industry & Academic Opportunity Exploration Programme Series, a special was conducted on 15 September 2026 at the University of Staffordshire in collaboration with APIIT, providing students with opportunities to explore engineering disciplines through practical learning, industry insights, and hands-on activities.

The programme commenced with an introduction by Mr. Dian Baduge, followed by a session on Engineering Education Through Activity-Based Learning by Dr. Dulini Mudunkotuwa, highlighting the value of practical and interactive approaches to engineering education.

Students then explored structural design and mechanical engineering through “Designing for Strength: From Material to Structure,” facilitated by Mr. Yasun Sampath, with resource persons Mr. T.D.D. Samaranayake and Mr. K.A.H.G. Somaweera. Through a hands-on paper bridge design challenge, students investigated how materials, shapes, and structural designs influence strength and performance.

The programme also featured “Legend’s Note – Real-World Career Experience Sharing” by Mr. Udara Kumarasena, Founder and CEO of Protonest IoT, who shared valuable industry insights, professional experiences, and perspectives on engineering careers.

Concluding the technical sessions, Dr. Nishan Dharmaweera, together with resource persons Mr. T.D.D. Samaranayake and Mr. K.A.H.G. Somaweera, introduced students to communication technologies through “Engineering a Connected World: How Information Travels.” The practical Morse code communication challenge allowed students to explore electrical and electronic engineering concepts through circuit-building, message transmission, and decoding.

Another inspiring day of learning, innovation, and career exploration! As part of After A/L Career Week 2026 – Industry & Academic Opportunity Exploration Programme Series, the IT & Computing Programme was successfully conducted on 5 October 2026 at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, helping students explore opportunities in information technology, computing, artificial intelligence, and emerging digital careers.

The programme featured an informative session by Mrs. Damitha Dilmini Kariyawasam, representing the University Grants Commission (UGC), on government university selection in Sri Lanka, guiding students on admission criteria, Z-scores, course preferences, and making informed decisions about their higher education pathways.

A practical session on AI-powered website development was conducted by Ms. Piyumi Liyanarachchi, Consultant – Senior Business Analyst, who brings years of experience in the IT industry. The session introduced students to how artificial intelligence is transforming digital creation and website development, giving them an opportunity to explore the practical applications of AI in technology.

The programme also featured a PPIM Scholarship Activation Programme, providing students with an opportunity to explore scholarship-related opportunities through a practical, case-study-based approach.

The programme featured an informative session by Mrs. Damitha Dilmini Kariyawasam, representing the University Grants Commission (UGC), on government university selection in Sri Lanka, guiding students on admission criteria, Z-scores, course preferences, and making informed decisions about their higher education pathways.

Mr. L.M.D. Dilantha Deva Adithiya, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of KIU University, delivered a session exploring psychological concepts, career pathways in psychology and psychiatry, employment opportunities, and the importance of understanding scientific evidence when evaluating career prospects.

For students interested in exploring opportunities beyond the traditional life sciences spectrum, Mr. Manjula Wickramasinghe, Director – Member Relations, Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL), introduced the diverse career opportunities available in the corporate sector, highlighting alternative professional pathways and possibilities within today’s corporate job market

As part of After A/L Career Week 2026 – Industry & Academic Opportunity Exploration Programme Series, the Pre-Business & Finance Programme was successfully conducted on 30 September 2026 at IBSL Towers, bringing together students interested in business, finance, economics, banking, and diverse future career pathways.

The programme featured an informative session by Mrs. Damitha Dilmini Kariyawasam, representing the University Grants Commission (UGC), on government university selection in Sri Lanka. The session provided students with valuable insights into the university selection process, key admission criteria, and important factors to consider when selecting university courses based on their Z-scores, preferences, and future career aspirations.

Students also gained valuable perspectives on global macroeconomic policy, exchange rates, and supply chain crises through a lecture delivered by Mr. Mark Gunathilake, CIMA Lecturer, followed by a research-based case study presented by Mr. Keith Perera. These sessions helped students understand the impact of global economic developments on businesses and financial markets while strengthening their analytical thinking and real-world decision-making skills.

AFTER A/L CAREER WEEK | LAW CAREER & INDUSTRY EXPLORATION PROGRAMME 2026

As part of the After A/L Career Week – Industry & Academic Opportunity Exploration Programme Series, the Law Career & Industry Exploration Programme was successfully conducted on 25 September 2026 at APIIT Law School, bringing together students interested in Law, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, and related career pathways.

The programme provided students with valuable insights into the diverse career opportunities within the field of Law and the different professional pathways available through an LLB qualification. Dr. Chathura Warnasuriya, Head of Law School, shared his expertise on the various career opportunities within the legal profession and helped students understand the broader scope of pursuing a career in Law.

Students also gained a deeper understanding of the importance of Law in society, as well as key aspects of criminal and civil law, through the insights shared by Ms. Indira Ratwatte, Senior Lecturer – Law School. The programme further introduced students to the practical side of crime scene investigation and criminal investigations, with valuable knowledge shared by Ms. Natasha Wijesekara, Lecturer – Law School, and Ms. Kaveesha Coswatte, Lecturer – Law School, together with practical insights from officers of the Sri Lanka Police.

The sessions provided students with an opportunity to connect their academic interests with real-world legal practice, criminal investigations, and potential career pathways, helping them gain a clearer understanding of the opportunities available within the broader legal and criminal justice sectors.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Chathura Warnasuriya, Ms. Indira Ratwatte, Ms. Natasha Wijesekara, Ms. Kaveesha Coswatte, the officers of the Sri Lanka Police, and all other resource persons and facilitators for generously sharing their knowledge, expertise, and professional experience with the students.
