To mark International Women’s Day 2026, our The Aspire Community Foundation organised an event in the Kuliyapitiya area where a local woman entrepreneur Ms Nirosha Jayawardena spoke to an audience of 50 rural women about her business journey, building an apparel manufacturing business.

The aim of the talk was to inspire others interested in starting a similar enterprise to gain information and support from this example where we at Aspire Community Foundation would support a group that were prepared to start up a business.

The guest speaker Ms Jayawardena offered opportunities to 5 women interested in joining her enterprise and pledged to give orders for sewing garments to a group of others setting up in self employment.

We hope to work with the regional development officers to support the women entrepreneurs in this venture providing training and seed funding. These women entrepreneurs can lift up their families and earn a sustainable livelihood through using this opportunity and support.

Thanks to Sachini Rathnayake Grama Niladhari and the development officers for their support for this
