Free Cataract Surgeries at HelpAge Eye Hospital ✨

An eye camp was successfully conducted at Bellanwilla Rajamaha Viharaya by HelpAge Sri Lanka, bringing essential vision care services to the elderly community.

A total of 63 older persons participated, including 21 males and 42 females, all of whom benefited from the initiative. During the screening, 55 individuals were identified as needing bifocal Spectacles, while 8 were recommended for cataract surgery.

This impactful intervention highlights the continued commitment to improving the quality of life and vision health of older persons through accessible and community-based healthcare services.

Through this project, we worked hand in hand with our older people to make a real difference in their lives.

1. We strengthened Senior Citizen Committees, giving them skills and knowledge they needed through leadership, management, bookkeeping, fundraising, and elder’s rights awareness trainings, along with essential equipment to lead their committees with confidence and purpose.

2. We supported health and well-being, working closely with the Health Ministry, RDHS offices, MOH offices, and hospitals. From awareness campaigns and home care training to medical screenings and providing equipment, we ensured our older people receive the care they deserve.

3. We helped build sustainable livelihoods, giving them technical skills, equipment, microloans, and marketing guidance, so they can stay independent, productive, and proud of their work.

This video captures the smiles, learnings, and courage of our older people reminding us that every elder deserves dignity, care, and opportunity!
