Today, RDFL and SIDC had the honor of meeting with Hadja Lahbib, European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection and Equality, during her visit to Lebanon.

The discussion focused on the realities and challenges faced by women and girls in all their diversity in Lebanon, both before and during the current war, including the growing protection risks, inequalities, exclusion, and the urgent need for sustained feminist and humanitarian action.

The meeting was attended by RDFL President Ms. Layla Mroueh, RDFL Vice President Ms. Sara El Outa, and SIDC Executive Director Ms. Nadia Badran, who highlighted the importance of centering women’s voices and lived experiences in humanitarian response, protection, and recovery efforts.

In times of crisis, feminist organizations continue to play a critical role in defending rights, supporting communities, and ensuring that no one is left behind.

New contribution to global research!
SIDC contributed to the study ‘Chemsex-Related Risk Among Men Who Have S*x with Men: Profiling and Mapping Psychological Vulnerability Over Time’, advancing evidence-based understanding of chemsex-related risks and psychological vulnerability among MSM.

Sara fled her home with only the clothes on her back.

In displacement, she found it hard to put her reality into words. Instead, she shared a simple sketch, capturing a fragment of what she was going through, and the weight she carried in silence.

Behind every line she draws is a life she is trying to rebuild.

With the support of SIDC, Sara received essential services, including mental health and psychiatric care, financial assistance, legal aid, and specialized healthcare such as gynecological and STIs services.

Today, Sara continues her journey toward healing, step by step, line by line.

Zaynab fled her home with nothing but a small mug in her hand.

In the midst of chaos and uncertainty, that mug became a small source of comfort, something familiar in a moment where everything else was lost.

Through SIDC’s support, she received case management, psychosocial counseling, cash assistance, and access to STI testing services to help her navigate the impact of displacement and rebuild her sense of stability.

Today, Zaynab is slowly putting the pieces of her life back together, one step at a time.

Marwa is a humanitarian aid worker who stayed when many had to leave.

An Egyptian national married to a Lebanese man, she could have left at the start of the escalation but chose to remain, driven by her work, her family, and her sense of purpose.

As the crisis intensified, Marwa herself was forced to flee with nothing but her cat and a few belongings, leaving behind her home and the life she once knew.Despite her own displacement, she continued supporting others, contributing to protection, health, and mental health services, as well as case management and emergency cash assistance.

Today, Marwa is both a responder and a survivor, continuing to stand by the communities she serves.

Hassan is a displaced father of two.

He was among more than one million people displaced during the recent escalation. The impact on his life has been profound. In the midst of crisis, he received cash assistance, as well as access to mental health and psychiatric support sessions to help him cope with the psychological and economic strain.

Today, even after the ceasefire, Hassan remains displaced. He continues to struggle to find stability for himself and his family in a reality that still offers no certainty and no sense of normal life.

She is displaced, yet she does not stop.

A social worker with SIDC, she continues to support women and girls who are navigating displacement and uncertainty, linking them to vital services for their physical and mental health.

In a moment of deep instability, she stands on both sides of care: as someone who needs support and as someone providing it.

Even after the ceasefire, the consequences of the recent escalation continue to shape the daily reality of women and girls across Lebanon. Many who are displaced have lost their jobs as a result of the escalation and are currently unemployed, and for some, the loss of their homes has deepened their vulnerability.

In this context, access to basic support is not only essential, it is urgent. Beyond material needs, many women and girls are coping with trauma resulting from violence and airstrikes, highlighting the critical importance of psychological first aid and mental health support.

CARE International in Lebanon - كير الدولية في لبنان, in partnership with SIDC, continues to stand alongside women and girls by providing essential assistance, including dignity items such as shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, and sanitary pads, alongside psychological first aid to support them in processing trauma and beginning their recovery with dignity.
