Over the span of three months, we have concluded 12 days of intensive training for the .museum staff and SAWN initiatives. This program, part of our Jouhouzia training, is dedicated to the safeguarding and protection of heritage and artifacts in times of crisis, aiming to introduce comprehensive emergency response plans for museum professionals.
The journey moved from theory to action as we entered the simulation phase, starting the 6th day of training.

As we wrap up these final days, we are proud to see this dedicated group of professionals ready to protect our history.

على مدار ثلاثة أشهر، اختتمنا ١٢ يومًا من التدريب المكثف لموظفي متحف بيما ومبادرات شبكة جنوب آسيا للمتاحف (SAWN). يهدف هذا البرنامج، وهو جزء من تدريب جوهوزيا، إلى صون وحماية التراث والآثار في أوقات الأزمات، وتقديم خطط استجابة شاملة للطوارئ للعاملين في المتاحف.
انتقلنا من الجانب النظري إلى التطبيق العملي مع دخولنا مرحلة المحاكاة، بدءًا من اليوم السادس من التدريب.

مع اختتام هذه الأيام الأخيرة، نفخر برؤية هذه المجموعة المتفانية من المحترفين على أهبة الاستعداد لحماية تاريخنا.
ولا ننسى المدربين المتميزين الذين أشرفوا على هذا التدريب: جوآن بجالي، د. رنا دوبيسي، د. ندى كلاس، إنغريد بويلر، د. ارز لبكي.

We would like to extend our gratitude to all the work done by our teams during the year 2025. With school and field trips for over 1000 school students from all around Lebanon, over 500 historical houses and monuments in the south and the Bekaa documented, the Baalbak storage fully rehabilitated and more than 5 sites consolidated.

نود أن نعرب عن امتناننا لجميع الأعمال التي قامت بها فرقنا خلال عام 2025. مع الرحلات المدرسية والميدانية لأكثر من 1000 طالب من جميع أنحاء لبنان، وتوثيق أكثر من 500 منزل ومعلم تاريخي في الجنوب والبقاع، وإعادة تأهيل مخزن بعلبك بالكامل، وتدعيم أكثر من 5 مواقع.

Located at the heart of the World Heritage site of Baalbek, the Mesdakhana project is a pioneering initiative establishing Lebanon’s first dedicated storage for stone archaeological artifacts. Led by and the .ministry.of.culture with support from the , this project involves a massive rehabilitation of the site to transform it into an open storage facility accessible to the public. A crucial milestone has already been reached, with the staff of the General Directorate of Antiquities successfully digitizing and creating a full inventory system for 3,000 stone artifacts, ensuring these treasures are not only preserved but will soon be shared with the world.

يقع مشروع “المسدخنة” في قلب موقع بعلبك المُدرج على لائحة التراث العالمي، وهو مبادرة رائدة تهدف إلى إنشاء أول مستودع مخصص للقطع الأثرية في لبنان. يُنفّذ هذا المشروع بتعاون بين جمعية “بلادي” ووزارة الثقافة، وبدعم من مؤسسة “غيردا هنكل”، حيث يخضع المكان لعملية إعادة تأهيل شاملة لتحويله لاحقاً إلى مستودع مفتوح أمام الجمهور. وقد تم تحقيق إنجاز كبير في هذا الإطار، إذ قام فريق المديرية العامة للآثار برقمنة ٣٠٠٠ قطعة حجرية أثرية وإعداد نظام جرد كامل لها، مما يضمن حفظ هذه الكنوز ومشاركتها مع العالم في المستقبل القريب

48 heritage buildings were documented in West Zawtar after the 2024 aggression.
The village shows two major construction periods:
1700–1870 and 1901–1930, together forming over 90% of its historic fabric.
Mapping these buildings helps reveal what was damaged—and what must be protected before it disappears.

تم توثيق ٤٨ مبنًى تراثيًا في زوطر الغربية بعد عدوان 2024.
وتُظهر نتائج المسح فترتين أساسيتين للبناء في البلدة: 1700–1870 و 1901–1930، واللتين تشكلان أكثر من 90% من نسيجها التاريخي.
إنّ خرائط التوثيق تكشف ما تضرّر… وما يجب حمايته قبل أن يختفي.
يأتي هذا العمل ضمن مشروع بلادي لتقييم أضرار التراث في جنوب لبنان، وبمشاركة طلاب العمارة في الجامعة اللبنانية.

The documentation of Zawtar West extends far beyond recording damage, it reveals the fragile continuity of a rural architectural landscape that has long carried the memory and identity of the community.
Out of 48 surveyed heritage buildings, the assessment shows a spectrum of conditions shaped by the 2024 conflict: from structures completely destroyed, to severely damaged houses, to those deteriorated through neglect or still standing in a habitable state.
The rural stone typologies of Zawtar, its modest single-story houses, agricultural extensions, and traditional courtyards, capture the essence of village life in South Lebanon. Today, many of these buildings remain marked by collapse, cracking, and structural instability, yet they continue to assert their place in the landscape.
This documentation is part of the ongoing Damage Assessment of Heritage Buildings in South Lebanon, conducted by Biladi NGO in collaboration with the Lebanese University – Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture.

‎يتجاوز توثيق زوطر الغربية مجرد تسجيل الأضرار، إذ يكشف عن هشاشة استمرارية المشهد المعماري الريفي الذي حمل ذاكرة وهوية المجتمع لفترة طويلة.
‎من بين 48 مبنى تراثيًا شملها المسح، يُظهر التقييم طيفًا من الظروف التي شكلتها حرب عام 2024: من مبانٍ مدمرة بالكامل، إلى منازل متضررة بشدة، إلى منازل تدهورت بسبب الإهمال أو لا تزال قائمة في حالة صالحة للسكن.
‎تُجسد أنماط الحجارة الريفية في زوطر، ومنازلها المتواضعة المكونة من طابق واحد، وامتداداتها الزراعية، وساحاتها التقليدية، جوهر الحياة القروية في جنوب لبنان. واليوم، لا يزال العديد من هذه المباني يعاني من الانهيار والتشقق وعدم الاستقرار الهيكلي، ومع ذلك لا تزال تُثبت مكانتها في المشهد.
‎يُعدّ هذا التوثيق جزءًا من تقييم الأضرار المستمر للمباني التراثية في جنوب لبنان، الذي تُجريه منظمة بلادي غير الحكومية بالتعاون مع الجامعة اللبنانية - كلية الفنون الجميلة والعمارة.

The field survey conducted by with the students of the after the 2024 war reveals a rich architectural timeline in East Zawtar. A total of 64 heritage buildings were documented, spanning from the late 17th century to the mid-20th century — a clear reflection of the town’s evolving urban identity.
Percentage of buildings by construction period:
• 1700–1870: 31.25%
• 1871–1900: 14.06%
• 1901–1930: 29.6%
• 1931–1950: 18.75%
• 1951–1960: 6%
The mapping illustrates how these buildings are distributed across the town, offering insights into settlement patterns and architectural development over time.
The accompanying photos present architectural examples from each historical period, highlighting variations in stonework, proportions, roof systems, and stylistic details.
Documenting this architectural timeline is not merely a record of the past — it is a foundation for shaping a future that respects and preserves the identity and memory of the place.

تُظهر نتائج المسح الميداني الذي نفذته جمعية بلادي مع طلاب العمارة في الجامعة اللبنانية بعد حرب 2024 مساراً زمنياً غنيّاً للتراث المعماري في زوطر الشرقية. فقد تمكّنا من توثيق 64 مبنى تراثياً تتنوّع بين أواخر القرن السابع عشر ومنتصف القرن العشرين، ما يعكس تطوّر النمط العمراني وارتباطه بالتحوّلات الاجتماعية والاقتصادية في البلدة.
نِسَب المباني بحسب الفترات الزمنية:
• 1700–1870: 31.25%
• 1871–1900: 14.06%
• 1901–1930: 29.6%
• 1931–1950: 18.75%
• 1951–1960: 6%
تُظهر الخرائط توزيع هذه الأبنية داخل النسيج العمراني، ما يتيح فهم دينامية النمو العمراني ورصد التطوّر البنائي عبر الزمن.
الصور المرفقة توثّق نماذج معمارية من كل فترة، وتُظهر تنوّع المواد، النِسَب، واللغة المعمارية في بيوت البلدة.
إن توثيق هذا التاريخ العمراني ليس استعادة للماضي فحسب، بل خطوة أساسية لإعادة بناء رؤية مستقبلية تحافظ على هوية المكان وذاكرته.

, together with the students of the , continue their assessment of architectural heritage damage in the affected towns of South Lebanon.
This time, we present the results of the field survey conducted in East Zawtar after the 2024 war, documenting the condition of its heritage buildings through a rigorous evaluation methodology focused on preserving the identity of the place.
The team adopted a clear framework for classifying damage to heritage buildings in East Zawtar, ranging from:
Severely Damaged – Damaged – Lightly Damaged – Habitable.
This categorization is a fundamental step toward understanding the scale of impact and developing appropriate intervention plans to safeguard the town’s historic fabric.
The team succeeded in documenting 64 heritage buildings in East Zawtar.
The results show that:
3% are severely damaged
9.3% are damaged
7.8% are lightly damaged
79.7% are habitable
These data provide a foundation for shaping a vision for the affected urban landscape and determining priorities for the upcoming phases.

تستكمل جمعية بلادي، مع طلاب قسم العمارة في الجامعة اللبنانية، أعمال تقييم أضرار التراث المعماري في بلدات الجنوب المتضرّرة.
هذه المرة، نستعرض نتائج المسح الميداني في زوطر الشرقية بعد حرب 2024، وتوثيق حالة الأبنية التراثية فيها ضمن منهجية تقييم دقيقة تُعنى بالحفاظ على هوية المكان.

اعتمد فريق بلادي منهجية واضحة لتصنيف أضرار الأبنية التراثية في زوطر الشرقية، تراوحت بين:
ضرر شديد – متضرر – ضرر طفيف – قابل للسكن.
يُعد هذا التصنيف خطوة أساسية لفهم حجم التأثير ووضع خطط التدخل المناسبة للحفاظ على النسيج التاريخي للبلدة.

تمكّن فريق بلادي من توثيق ٦٤ مبنى تراثيًا في زوطر الشرقية.
النتائج تُظهر أن:
٣٪ أضرار شديدة
٩.٣٪ أضرار متوسطة
٧.٨٪ أضرار طفيفة
٧٩.٧٪ قابلة للسكن
هذه البيانات تشكّل قاعدة لبناء رؤية للمشهد العمراني المتضرر، وتحديد الأولويات للمراحل القادمة.

The team organized a field trip to Falougha to celebrate independance day with the students of . The guided tour included a hike in the cedar reserve in Falougha, raising the Lebanese Flag, and planting a cedar tree, symbol of our country. The students also visited the .lb Mineral Water Factory. All interested institutions are welcome to get in touch with the team, in order to organize a similar trip

نظم فريق رحلةً ميدانيةً إلى فالوغا احتفالاً بعيد الاستقلال مع طلاب . تضمنت الجولة المصحوبة بمرشدين نزهةً في محمية الأرز في فالوغا، ورفع العلم اللبناني، وغرس شجرة أرز، رمزٌ لوطننا. كما زار الطلاب مصنع سهى للمياه المعدنية. ندعو جميع المؤسسات المهتمة إلى التواصل مع الفريق لتنظيم رحلة مماثلة.

Restoration of the wooden structure of Mesdkhana storage for archaeological artifacts in Baalbak is finalizing. The structure, built during the French mandate, was severely damaged and on the edge of collapse following the bombing on Baalbak.
, in partnership with the General Directorate of Antiquities .ministry.of.culture and with a fund ensured by , is completing this vital restoration work. The storage will be open to the public soon.

تُستكمل أعمال ترميم الهيكل الخشبي لمخزن المسخنة للقطع الأثرية في بعلبك. كان هذا الهيكل، الذي شُيّد خلال فترة الانتداب الفرنسي، قد تعرّض لأضرار بالغة، وكان على وشك الانهيار إثر قصف بعلبك. وتُنجز جمعية بلادي، بالشراكة مع المديرية العامة للآثار - وزارة الثقافة، وبتمويل من مؤسسة جيردا هنكل، هذا العمل الترميمي الحيوي. وسيُفتح المخزن للجمهور قريبًا.
