When mudbrick, heritage education, a bunch of archaeologists, architect restorers and youth meet together, the result is a weekend full of pure happiness!
On Friday, April 28th, and Saturday April 29th, the Heritage Education Program collaborated with QHRP to create heritage awareness and education for more than 75 children and youth from Saydet el-Beqaa school and local children, to learn about their mudbrick heritage and archaeology! A historical timeline brochure, hands-on archaeological activities, 2 fake digs, drawing and painting, phoenician alphabet, mudbrick construction techniques and many other educational tasks were implemented.
We are infinitely grateful for the continuous support from the municipality and its mayor Bachir Mattar (funding the activity), Jamal Farha for hosting us in his beautiful l'Kaa Country Lodge for 2 days and Nikolas Mattar with his support and generosity from HIMAM Ngo. We also would like to thank the General Directorate of Antiquities - Ministry of Culture and its director Mr. Sarkis Khoury for his continuous patronage, Saada and George Farha's heartwarming dinner, Ghada Saad for her tremendous local coordination, Soeur Justine from Saydet el-Beqaa school for welcoming us, for the technical support from local master builder and craftsman Elias Sakr, for Youssef Skaf and his enthusiasm, Madlene Kallas, Salam Awad, Salma Saad, Lara Nasrallah, all the other volunteers from el-Qaa, who made this weekend a success.
Furthermore, this weekend would also not have seen the light had it not been for all the energy that HEP’s volunteering team put into it. Elie Akiki, Graziella Nakad, Takla Khoueiry, Claude, Carine, Samer Amhaz, Bachir Khoury, Aimee Abou Rizk, Claudine Abdel Massih, Lamis Jamal (Directorate General of Antiquities), Patricia Antaki from the University of Balamand - Department of Archaeology and Museology, Marianne el-Khoury, Mohammad Abdel Sater, Arwad el-Hajj Hussein, Thomas Fares and Jamil Choueiry for photography, Chady Rizk, Selim Khalil and all those who supported from behind the scenes, including Grace Rihan, Rita Kalindjian, Nada Kallas, Oussama Kallab (Directorate General of Antiquities), Julie Lebnan and Maroun Khraich.
Lina and Selim, our 2 young, animated archaeologists, are very pleased because they fulfilled their goals of reaching out to so many children from el-Qaa! Many thanks to Dania el-Khatib for her creative animation! And Jad Fadel for his excellent Logo design.
This collaboration is only the start of a long journey of future projects between HEP and QHRP, in order to create heritage awareness, therefore empowering el-Qaa’s local communities to protect and preserve their regions’ precious past!
عندما يجتمع مجموعة من علماء الآثار، الطين اللبن ، التدريب على التراث، معماريين مرممين والشباب معًا, تكون النتيجة مليئة بالسعادة!
في يوم الجمعة 28 أبريل والسبت 29 أبريل, تعاون برنامج التدريب على التراث مع مشروع إحياء تراث القاع لترديب لأكثر من 75 طفلًا وشابًا من مدرسة سيدة البقاع، للتعرف على تراثهم من الطين اللبن وآثار القاع! تم تنفيذ وتوزيع كتيب كامل ، وحفر وهمي ، ورسم ، وأبجدية فينيقية ،وأنشطة عملية وتقنيات بناء من الطين اللبن والعديد من المهام التعليمية لمدة يومين متتاليين.
HEP و QHRP ممتنون للغاية للدعم المستمر من البلدية القاع ورئيسها بشير مطر (تمويل النشاط) ، جمال فرحة لاستضافتنا في القاع كونتري لودج الجميل، نيكولاس مطر لحضوره وكرمه من منظمة همم. كذلك نريد أن نشكر المديرية العامة للاثار - وزارة الثقافة إلى رعايتها و مديريها العام الاستاذ سركيس خوري, سعدى وجورج فرحة لاستقبالهما المحب، غادة سعد لتنسيقها المحلي، الأخت جوستين من سيدة البقاع على ترحيبها بنا في مدرستها ، للدعم الفني من الحرفي المحلي الياس نصر ويوسف سكاف وحماسه، مادلين كلاس, سلام عوض، سلمى سعد، لارا نصرالله, ولجميع المتطوعين من قرية القاع الذين ساهموا بنجاح لمشروع.
ولم يكن هذا المشروع لينجح لولا كل الطاقة التي وضعها فريق التطوع. إيلي عقيقي ، جرازيلا نكد ، تقلا خويري ، كلود ، كارين ، سامر أمهز ، بشير خوري ، إيمي أبو رزق ، كلودين عبد المسيح ، لميس جمال من مديرية الآثار، باتريسيا أنطاكي من جامعة البلمند - فرع علوم الآثارا والمتاحف ، ماريان الخوري ، محمد عبد الساتر, ارواد الحج حسين, تصوير توماس فارس وجميل شويري، شادي رزق ,سليم خليل , كريستينا بيطار وجميع الداعمين من وراء الكواليس ومنهم غريس ريحان وريتا كاليندجيان وندى كلاس وأوسامة كلاب وجولي لبنان ومارون خريش ولدعم مديرية الآثار في وزارة الثقافة اللبنانية.
شكراً جزيلاً لدانيا الخطيب على إبداعها في الرسوم المتحركة! لينا وسليم، شاب وصبية من علماء الآثار المتحركين, فرحانين كتير لأنهما حققا حلمهما بالوصول إلى العديد من أولاد وشباب القاع!
هذا التعاون هو مجرد بداية لرحلة طويلة من المشاريع المستقبلية بين HEP و QHRP ، من أجل خلق وعي بالتراث ، وبالتالي تمكين المجتمعات المحلية في القاع لحماية والحفاظ على الماضي الثمين!
