Pope Leo XIV arrived to Algeria on April 13, 2026, marking the first-ever papal visit to the country.

His trip emphasized a strong message focused on peace, interfaith dialogue, and solidarity, highlighting Algeria as a place of coexistence between Christians and Muslims, calling for fraternal living and interreligious harmony and support for vulnerable communities such as migrants. He also drew on Algeria’s Christian heritage, particularly the legacy of Saint Augustine of Hippo, to encourage dialogue and unity.

This visit takes place amid the current political tensions, reaffirming that the Pope’s humanitarian advocacy messages is grounded in Gospel principles.

Caritas MONA reflects on this visit as a profound pilgrimage of faith and hope, a living testimony of God's presence among his people, regenerating in our wounded region the light of peace, fraternity and the unwavering dignity of every human person.

On this Easter, we remember the journey of suffering, pain, sacrifice by Jesus and the hope of his resurrection - a story that resonates deeply in our region today.
Amid hardship, loss and displacement, Easter reminds us that pain is not the end; light and hope can emerge again even in the darkest times.

We wish you and your loved ones a Blessed Easter and may this season bring strength, peace, and hope.

Caritas MONA mourns with deep sadness the passing of Father Pierre Al-Rahi, Regional Chaplain of Qlayaa in Marjeyoun of Caritas Lebanon, who died from injuries sustained during Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon while faithfully serving his parish.

As violence continues to escalate and conflict is widening across the Middle East, Caritas MONA expresses its deep concern over the devastating humanitarian consequences for civilians and already fragile communities. We stand in solidarity with those who have been displaced and with all who are living under fear and uncertainty.

At a time when tensions and instability are rising and suffering continues to spread; we renew our hope for immediate protection of civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law and a sincere commitment to dialogue and diplomatic solutions.

We echo the call from the Assembly of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops in Lebanon in their latest statement for an immediate end to the escalation, urging leaders for dialogue, protect human dignity, support displaced people, and work for lasting peace.

We invite all people of goodwill to keep the people of our region in their prayers and thoughts, and to stand with us in solidarity as we hope for peace, safety, and just future for all.

Caritas unequivocally condemns the attacks carried out by the US and Israel on Iran, and the retaliatory strikes across the region.

Such escalation increases instability and places civilians at grave risk. Schools, hospitals and populated areas must never be targets. International humanitarian law must be upheld without exception.

Echoing the appeal of Pope Leo XIV, we urge all parties to halt the spiral of violence and return to sincere dialogue.

The international community must act to prevent further loss of innocent life.
