A meeting was held by the Baalbeck International Festival's General Assembly, on the 15th of December 2025 at 3:30pm, resulting into, by acclamation, the election of the following ladies and gentlemen as members of the executive committee:
Joumana Atallah, Lamia Moubayed Bissat, Joumana Debbane, Na

yla de Freige, Rana Hadid, Itidal Haidar, Loubna Khalil, Rafic Meouchy, Nabil Najjar, Zeina Saleh, Elga Trad and Hammad Yaghi. A meeting was held, on the same day, by the elected executive committee to assign the member's tasks:

At a time when Lebanon continues to face uncertainty, investing in people through education is one of the most powerful ways to build a more resilient future.
In 2025, the International Festival and .Beirut partnered on an initiative grounded in arts education as a framework for empowerment, offering women in Lebanon hands-on learning, professional training, mentorship, artistic creation, and direct participation in cultural production.
From festival management and production to costume design for Carmen, visual arts workshops, and public exhibitions, women and girls gained practical skills, strengthened their creativity, and expanded opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. By placing education at the heart of professional growth, the initiative contributes to greater economic sustainability, gender equality, and social inclusion — while reinforcing the role of art education and culture as a driver of sustainable development.
The collaboration also led to the creation of a Gender-Responsive Strategic Framework for Culture Management, providing a roadmap for a more inclusive, equitable, and resilient cultural sector.
Safeguarding heritage is not only about protecting monuments. It is about educating, creating opportunities, and ensuring that women have the knowledge, skills, and platforms to shape, preserve, and sustain Lebanon's cultural future.

Manifeste pour la protection du patrimoine culturel de Baalbek

l’UNESCO
et aux institutions internationales de protection du patrimoine culturel,

L’Académie libano-brésilienne des lettres, des arts et des sciences, par l’intermédiaire de ses membres et en dialogue avec des représentants de la communauté culturelle et de la diaspora libanaise au Brésil, souhaite, respectueusement, exprimer sa profonde préoccupation face aux risques qui menacent le site archéologique de Baalbek dans le contexte actuel d’instabilité et de conflit au Liban.

Reconnu comme patrimoine mondial, Baalbek constitue l’un des témoignages les plus importants de l’histoire des civilisations, étant un symbole non seulement de l’identité culturelle libanaise, mais aussi de l’héritage commun de l’humanité.

Face à l’intensification des tensions dans la région et aux risques concrets pesant sur l’intégrité des biens culturels, nous soulignons l’urgence de renforcer les mécanismes internationaux de protection du patrimoine dans les zones de conflit, conformément aux principes établis par les conventions internationales en vigueur.

Dans ce contexte, l’Académie libano-brésilienne des lettres, des arts et des sciences :

exprime son soutien à toutes les initiatives de sauvegarde du patrimoine culturel libanais ;

encourage le renforcement d’actions coordonnées entre les organismes internationaux, les autorités locales et la communauté culturelle mondiale ;

réaffirme l’importance de la culture comme instrument de résistance, d’identité et de reconstruction sociale.

Ce manifeste a été présenté dans le cadre de l’événement
« Baalbek : patrimoine en danger, culture en résistance »,
réalisé avec la participation de Nayla de Freige, présidente du Festival international de Baalbeck, et de Jorge Takla, metteur en scène brésilien ayant récemment travaillé à Baalbek, réunissant des voix engagées pour la préservation de la culture et de la mémoire.

Nous réitérons que la protection du patrimoine culturel doit demeurer une priorité pour la communauté internationale, en particulier dans les contextes de crise, où les risques de pertes irréparables deviennent plus imminents.

La destruction des biens culturels ne représente pas seulement un dommage matériel, mais une perte irréversible pour l’histoire et pour les générations futures.

Nous nous tenons à disposition pour collaborer à des initiatives visant la préservation, la valorisation et la diffusion du patrimoine culturel libanais.

His Excellency President Joseph Aoun received today at the Presidential Palace a delegation from the Baalbeck International Festivals Committee, headed by its President Nayla de Freige, and was briefed on the program of the 2026 edition marking the 70th anniversary of the Festival’s founding.

The delegation presented the highlights of this milestone season, celebrating seven decades of cultural excellence and reaffirming Baalbeck’s role as a leading beacon of arts and heritage in Lebanon and the region.

The 1999 edition of the Baalbeck Festival brought unforgettable encounters under the ancient stones.
From the grandeur of Caracalla Dance Theatre to the timeless voice of Charles Aznavour, from soprano June Anderson to the electric violin of Vanessa-Mae, and the unique East-meets-Jazz sound of Rabih Abou-Khalil. This year, we celebrate 70 years of the Baalbeck International Festival.�70 years of music, stars, and stories under the Baalbeck sky.
To mark this milestone, we open the vaults of time.
1997 marked the Festival’s revival, after a 22-year interruption caused by the civil war.
That year featured unforgettable moments:�Andalousie, La Gloire perdue by Caracalla Dance Theatre, and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, conducted by Marek Janowski, with Mstislav Rostropovich as soloist.
A revival. A legacy. A festival that never stopped dreaming.
