Federation of Korean Music Performers(hereinafter refer to as FKMP) is a non-profit organization that deals with music performers' neighboring rights collective management in Korea. Federation of Korean Music Performers(FKMP)

FKMP is a non-profit organization that deals with music performers' neighboring rights collective management in Korea. FKMP was established for developing the cultural indus

try by protecting music performers' rights and interests, promoting their activities through mutual interchange and cooperation, and also improving the music performers' working conditions as well as social status. FKMP was granted permission to be established on August 18th, 1988 by "The Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism(MCST)" to protect and manage neighboring rights on behalf of music performers after the protection of neighboring rights began in earnest due to the revision of copyright laws(Act.3916) on December 31st, 1986. Also, FKMP was designated as remuneration collecting organization on October 14th, 1988, which FKMP started to step further into performers' rights protection. On November 2000, FKMP was approved as an trust management organization and became able to exercise exclusive rights such as online streaming, downloading, website background music, game, animation, mobile-based service, etc. Also, by being granted as remuneration collecting organization for "Digital Sound Transmission" on March 2008 as well as "Public Performance for Commercial Phonogram" on September 2009, FKMP became the only neighboring rights collective management organization representing music performers in Korea. Besides, FKMP tries hard to exchange information with domestic and international organizations and awards the individuals or organizations that contribute to cultural development. Also, FKMP mainly focuses on supporting music performers' performance activities and improving music performers' working conditions in many ways. In addition, FKMP takes the lead in the arrangement of policy for the music performers' general welfare by promoting the music performers' welfare, revising the Copyright laws, and so forth. The president of FKMP on behalf of the members of FKMP attends the board of directors as well as the general assembly to determine main policy. Also, after introducing management specialist system in 2012, the senior managing director who is selected by the board of directors through public offering and has specialized knowledge and management skills has been executing the policy. Membership Management
FKMP's members consists of "Individual Members" and "Special Members". Individual members again are made up of "Regular Members" and "Associate Members", based on articles of FKMP. There are about 6,000 members as of 2012, and the field of music they are in varies from pop and the Korean traditional music to classic music. Also, there are 6 special member organizations consisting of individual members as well as music performers. Current Special Members

Fill in "Application Form of Entry", "Application Form of Trust Management of Neighboring Rights ", "Application Form of Registration of Performance Information", and "Consent Form of Collecting & Using Personal Information"
Step3
Submit the document filled in at the Step2 with the copies of "Personal ID", "ID Picture", and "Released Album(s) as proof"
Step4
Receive "Membership Card" & "Certificate of Trust of Neighboring Rights"

Collection & Distribution

Royalty:
- Approved as a trust management organization by "The Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism(MCST)" on September 2000 handling "Right of reproduction", "Right of Interactive Transmission", etc.
- Collecting & distributing from various services such as online music service(streaming, download, bgm), wire/wireless information service, TV commercial, movies, and many more
- Promoting & legalizing subscription-based online music market, and establishing orderly market

Remuneration of Broadcasting:
- Approved as a management organization for remuneration of broadcasting by MCST on August 1988
- Collecting & distributing "Remuneration of Broadcasting for the Use of Commercial Phonograms"
- Negociate rate for remuneration
- Secure distribution data such as usage statement

Remuneration of Digital Sound Transmission :
- Approved as a management organization for remuneration of digital sound transmission by MCST on March 2008
- Collecting & distributing "Remuneration of Digital Sound Transmission for the Use of Sound Recordings"
- Negociate rate for remuneration
- Secure distribution data such as usage statement

Remuneration of Public Performance:
- Approved as a management organization for remuneration of public performance by MCST on September 2009
- Collecting & distributing "Remuneration of Public Performance for the Use of Commercial Phonograms"
- Negociate rate for remuneration
- Secure distribution data such as usage statement



Distribution Process

FKMP aims for fair and clear distribution through reliable distribution data and has built up computerized distribution system for calculating the amount of distribution using DB of performance information.
