Founded in 15 April, 2015, Order of Malta Korea (OMK) is dedicated to protecting the Catholic faith and serving the poor and the sick.

오더 오브 몰타 코리아 (Order of Malta Korea)는 the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta의 대한민국 지부로서 여러 나라에 있는 Order of Malta 지부와 연대하여, 가톨릭 신앙을 바탕으로 그리스도의 사랑, 봉사, 희생의 정신으로 생명을 존중하는 평화로운 세상을 실현하기 위하여 가난하고 소외된 이웃을 위한 나눔과 섬김을 실천하는 서울대교구 산하 평신도단체입니다.

On the morning of 12 August 2026, members of Order of Malta Korea gathered in our small chapel at the Catholic Center to remember Fr. Matthew Jong-chan Byun on the second anniversary of his passing.

The Memorial Mass was celebrated by our Chaplain, Fr. John Ki-seok Pak, as we came together in prayer and gratitude for Fr. Byun’s life, priesthood, and the many ways he served and accompanied our community.

Two years on, his memory remains very much with us, in our prayers and in the life of OMK.

May he rest in the peace of Christ.

Today, the members, aspirants, and volunteers of Order of Malta Korea made a pilgrimage to Haemi International Shrine, spending a day of prayer and quiet retreat at one of the most significant sites in the history of the Catholic faith in Korea.

Guided by the Shrine’s parish priest, we walked the grounds where countless Catholics chose martyrdom rather than deny their faith. Haemi is especially moving because it is the resting place of many unnamed martyrs—ordinary believers whose sacrifice is known to God alone.

Our pilgrimage concluded with Holy Mass in the Shrine chapel, celebrated by Fr. Augustine Hyuntaek Han and Fr. John Ki-seok Pak. Reflecting on today’s Gospel, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me” (Mark 8:34), Fr. Han connected Christ’s call to the witness of the martyrs whose footsteps we had followed throughout the day.

May their witness continue to deepen our own calling to serve Christ in faith and charity.

At this month’s Order of Malta Korea Monthly Mass, celebrated by Fr. Marco Kim Sung-soo at the chapel of the Archbishop’s Residence in Hyehwa, we reflected on the day’s Scripture readings and what they call us to live as members of the Order of Malta.

Drawing on the Gospel and the readings, Fr. Marco shared two inspiring examples of Christian charity: the Bank of Joy and Hope, which helps people leaving prison rebuild their lives, and Azit, a pastoral ministry accompanying young people who have lost their way.

What distinguishes both is the spirit of gratuitous love—service offered without first weighing conditions or measuring success. As Fr. Marco reminded us, this is often the work the world finds hardest to do, yet it is precisely the kind of work the Church is called to embrace, trusting that God desires fruit to grow even along the roadside.

His reflection also echoed the Holy Father’s recent teaching that the gifts we have received—both material and spiritual—are never ours alone, but are entrusted to us to be shared generously in love.

As members of the Order of Malta, may we continue to grow in patience, mercy, and hope, becoming ever more faithful witnesses to Christ’s love through humble service to the sick, the poor, and all those entrusted to our care.

Today, members and aspirants of the Order of Malta Korea, together with our children, took part in a pilgrimage on foot from Saenamteo Martyrs’ Shrine to Jeoldusan Martyrs’ Shrine.

Under the guidance of Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung, we walked nearly six kilometres along the Han River on a beautiful summer day. More than a simple walk, each step became an opportunity for prayer, reflection, and fellowship as we followed in the footsteps of the Korean martyrs.

It was especially heartening to see families and children walking alongside one another, sharing this journey of faith across generations. Their joyful presence was a reminder that faith is not only taught, but lived together.

Our pilgrimage concluded with the Sunday Mass at Jeoldusan Martyrs’ Shrine, celebrated by Cardinal Yeom together with Fr. John Ki-seok Park. Gathering around the Eucharist after our shared journey made this day all the more meaningful.

May the witness of the Korean martyrs continue to inspire us to walk faithfully in service to Christ and to those in need.

The 68th pilgrimage of the to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of has come to a close.

This year, the Order of Malta Korea joined with a contingent of 10 members, walking alongside pilgrims from around the world in prayer, service, and quiet solidarity.

We were especially grateful to welcome our Chaplain, Fr. John Pak, who joined the Lourdes pilgrimage for the first time, and to be accompanied once again by Monsignor Agostino Han and Fr. Marco Kim from the Vatican.

From solemn processions to moments of grace at the Grotto of Massabielle, the pilgrimage was marked not only by its liturgical depth, but by encounters—humble, human, and profound—with Our Lords the Sick.

With gratitude for all who served, supported, and journeyed together, we return carrying what Lourdes always leaves us with: a renewed sense of purpose, and a quieter, deeper faith.

In the quiet of the empty tomb, hope was restored and love overcame all darkness.

This Easter, may the light of the Resurrection renew our hearts and guide us to serve with compassion, humility, and unwavering faith.

As members and friends of the Order of Malta, may we continue to stand beside the sick and the poor, bearing witness to hope where it is needed most.

On this Third Sunday of Lent, Order of Malta Korea gathered for our March Monthly Mass at the Cardinal’s Residence Chapel, celebrated by His Eminence Cardinal Andrew Yeom.

Our Chaplain, Fr. John Pak, delivered a Lenten reflection on the “living water” from John 4:5–42, inviting us into a deeper time of prayer and contemplation.

Following the Mass, the OMK General Assembly approved the 2025 financial report and the 2026 activity plan. As we enter our 11th year together, we renew our commitment to serve the sick and the poor with faith, humility, and charity.

Today, the 2026 Order of Malta Korea (OMK) Workshop was held at the Maria Lecture Hall of the Institute for the Ongoing Formation of Priests, together with Confrere Daniel Kwok, Vice President of the Australian Association of the Order of Malta.

This workshop, which included a dedicated session of spiritual formation, was a meaningful step in deepening our identity and mission as a true religious lay order. Through prayer, reflection, and shared dialogue, participants were invited to renew their commitment to the spiritual foundations that guide our service to the poor and the sick.

We are grateful for Confrere Daniel Kwok’s presence, leadership and insights, and for the opportunity to strengthen fraternal bonds within the global Order of Malta community.

We gathered at the Chapel of the Bishop’s House in Hyehwa-dong for February OMK Mass, celebrated by Fr. John the Apostle Gi-seok Pak.

Reflecting on the Gospel, “You are the light of the world,” Fr. John offered a homily that resonated deeply with members of the Order of Malta—a reminder that our vocation is not only to serve quietly, but to allow that service to become a visible light for others.

With Lunar New Year just around the corner, the presence of children dressed in hanbok filled the chapel with joy and warmth, giving the Mass a truly family-like atmosphere. Faith, service, and community came together in a way that felt both intimate and hopeful.

Grateful for this shared moment of prayer as we continue our mission together.
