Today, members of the Order of Malta Korea gathered at the OMK Chapel in the Catholic Center in Myeongdong, to celebrate Sunday Mass on the World Day of Migrants and Refugees. The Mass was presided over by our chaplain, Fr. John Ki-seok Pak.

In his homily, Fr. Pak reflected on the Parable of the Growing Seed, found only in the Gospel of Mark, in which the earth yields its fruit "by itself." He drew our attention to this rare expression as an invitation to trust: to entrust to God what we have begun, and to let Him do what we cannot.

Turning to today's Gospel of the two sons and the Christ Hymn in the Letter to the Philippians, he spoke of faith shown through action, and of Christ's humility as the foundation of Christian service.

After Mass, members stayed on to discuss World Youth Day Seoul 2027 and the role OMK may play in welcoming fellow members of the Order and young people from around the world. We also reviewed preparations for our second Lourdes Mass for the migrant community, to be held in November.

It was a Sunday of prayer, fellowship and preparation. We trust that the small seeds planted today will, in God's time, grow beyond what we can see.

The Order of Malta Korea gathered today for our September Monthly Mass at the chapel of the Archbishop’s Residence in Hyehwa-dong, celebrated by His Eminence Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung.

Reflecting on today’s Gospel on forgiveness, Cardinal Yeom reminded us of the boundless love we have received from the Lord, and of our calling as members of the Order to carry that love into the lives of others through faith and service.

He also spoke of World Youth Day Seoul 2027 as an extraordinary moment for the Church in Korea, one that may come only once in a lifetime, and encouraged us to offer our wholehearted support and service.

It was especially meaningful to welcome three young people who joined us for the first time today. As we look toward WYD Seoul 2027, we are grateful to see a new generation beginning to walk alongside us.

May we continue to grow together in the spirit of the Order’s enduring mission—Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum: the defence of the faith and service to those in need.

Today, the Order of Malta Korea joins the worldwide family of the Order in celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Philermos, our beloved Patroness and Protectress.

For centuries, Our Lady of Philermos has accompanied the Order through times of pilgrimage, hardship and service, reminding us to remain steadfast in faith and faithful in our care for those in need.

On this special day, we entrust our members, volunteers, chaplains, and all those we are called to serve to her maternal protection.

May she continue to guide us in our mission of Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum — the defence of the faith and service to the poor and the sick.

On 30 August 2026, members and volunteers of Order of Malta Korea joined the World Youth Festival 2026, “Let’s Play Together!”, organized by the Archdiocese of Seoul’s Youth Ministry and Migrant Pastoral Commission.

One of the highlights was celebrating Mass alongside young people from migrant communities across Seoul, with Bishop Paul Kyung-sang Lee presiding.

After Mass, our young OMK volunteers met participants from different migrant communities and shared invitations to the OMK Lourdes Mass in November, reaching out to those building their lives and faith far from home.

With World Youth Day Seoul 2027 ahead, we also spoke about ways OMK and the wider Order of Malta community could contribute to WYD and welcome young people coming to Seoul from around the world.

On the morning of 12 August 2026, members of Order of Malta Korea gathered in our small chapel at the Catholic Center to remember Fr. Matthew Jong-chan Byun on the second anniversary of his passing.

The Memorial Mass was celebrated by our Chaplain, Fr. John Ki-seok Pak, as we came together in prayer and gratitude for Fr. Byun’s life, priesthood, and the many ways he served and accompanied our community.

Two years on, his memory remains very much with us, in our prayers and in the life of OMK.

May he rest in the peace of Christ.

Today, the members, aspirants, and volunteers of Order of Malta Korea made a pilgrimage to Haemi International Shrine, spending a day of prayer and quiet retreat at one of the most significant sites in the history of the Catholic faith in Korea.

Guided by the Shrine’s parish priest, we walked the grounds where countless Catholics chose martyrdom rather than deny their faith. Haemi is especially moving because it is the resting place of many unnamed martyrs—ordinary believers whose sacrifice is known to God alone.

Our pilgrimage concluded with Holy Mass in the Shrine chapel, celebrated by Fr. Augustine Hyuntaek Han and Fr. John Ki-seok Pak. Reflecting on today’s Gospel, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me” (Mark 8:34), Fr. Han connected Christ’s call to the witness of the martyrs whose footsteps we had followed throughout the day.

May their witness continue to deepen our own calling to serve Christ in faith and charity.

At this month’s Order of Malta Korea Monthly Mass, celebrated by Fr. Marco Kim Sung-soo at the chapel of the Archbishop’s Residence in Hyehwa, we reflected on the day’s Scripture readings and what they call us to live as members of the Order of Malta.

Drawing on the Gospel and the readings, Fr. Marco shared two inspiring examples of Christian charity: the Bank of Joy and Hope, which helps people leaving prison rebuild their lives, and Azit, a pastoral ministry accompanying young people who have lost their way.

What distinguishes both is the spirit of gratuitous love—service offered without first weighing conditions or measuring success. As Fr. Marco reminded us, this is often the work the world finds hardest to do, yet it is precisely the kind of work the Church is called to embrace, trusting that God desires fruit to grow even along the roadside.

His reflection also echoed the Holy Father’s recent teaching that the gifts we have received—both material and spiritual—are never ours alone, but are entrusted to us to be shared generously in love.

As members of the Order of Malta, may we continue to grow in patience, mercy, and hope, becoming ever more faithful witnesses to Christ’s love through humble service to the sick, the poor, and all those entrusted to our care.

Today, members and aspirants of the Order of Malta Korea, together with our children, took part in a pilgrimage on foot from Saenamteo Martyrs’ Shrine to Jeoldusan Martyrs’ Shrine.

Under the guidance of Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung, we walked nearly six kilometres along the Han River on a beautiful summer day. More than a simple walk, each step became an opportunity for prayer, reflection, and fellowship as we followed in the footsteps of the Korean martyrs.

It was especially heartening to see families and children walking alongside one another, sharing this journey of faith across generations. Their joyful presence was a reminder that faith is not only taught, but lived together.

Our pilgrimage concluded with the Sunday Mass at Jeoldusan Martyrs’ Shrine, celebrated by Cardinal Yeom together with Fr. John Ki-seok Park. Gathering around the Eucharist after our shared journey made this day all the more meaningful.

May the witness of the Korean martyrs continue to inspire us to walk faithfully in service to Christ and to those in need.
