Ms Yumi Chang, Global Programme Coordinator of the UNFPA Seoul Representation Office delivered a special, hour-long lecture to young delegates from various countries on January 10th. The lecture was part of the Yonsei Model United Nations, hosted by Yonsei University.
Ms. Chang’s presentation effectively enhanced the delegates’ understanding of UNFPA’s core mission, mandate, and key areas of work. These areas include Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), Human Rights (specifically Gender Equality and the prevention of and response to Gender-Based Violence - GBV), supporting young people, population dynamics, and humanitarian response and action. She underscored the significance of these issues and explained their direct relevance to the delegates’ lives and future.
A significant portion of the lecture provided an overview of the KOICA’s flagship “Conflict-affected and Fragile countries support Programme: CFP,” a critical regional-level initiative operating within the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) nexus. Ms. Chang highlighted that, thanks to the generous support and leadership of the Republic of Korea and KOICA, UNFPA and seven other multilateral organizations are collaboratively driving change in the most challenging humanitarian-context countries and regions. This collective effort aims to strengthen resilience through service delivery structured around three key pillars: 1. Dispute and conflict resolution, 2. Building peace, and 3. Vulnerability mitigation.
Concluding the session with a Q&A segment, Ms. Chang encouraged the young future leaders to continue pursuing careers within the UN and other multilateral organizations. She also introduced them to the International Organizations Recruitment Centre (UNrecruit.mofa.go.kr), a resource hub for the UN-career related information and events, operated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.
