Cham Heritage

Cham Heritage At Cham Heritage, we connect Korean pop culture to the traditions behind it. We make Korean dance visible and understandable for a global audience.

Cham Heritage is guided by Professor Kim Ji-won, a scholar of Korean dance, semiotics, and cultural philosophy. Her work frames Korean traditional dance as a system of embodied knowledge, carrying cultural meaning across generations. Through Cham Heritage, her research is presented in a form that is accessible to a global audience while maintaining its intellectual and cultural depth.

🎭 Talchum is a traditional Korean masked dance performance where dancers wear masks to transform into different characters.

Originally performed by traveling entertainers, it spread across Korea during the late Joseon Dynasty and became a beloved part of folk culture. Through humor, storytelling, and dance, Talchum often satirized social inequality and the absurdities of society. 🇰🇷

A: Salpuri is an ancient Korean ritual dance performed to release unresolved spiritual energy. The aesthetic code is pre-linguistic. You were always supposed to feel it before you could name it. — Prof. Kim Ji-won
