I am delighted to join Jeju Dark Tours as an intern for the summer of 2024. Although I am a native Korean, my time in the U.S. pursuing my studies has deepened my interest in Korean issues. During my MA in Korean Studies at NYU, I explored significant topics such as the comfort women issue, neoliberalism, and gender issues. However, I realized that the Jeju 4.3 massacre is rarely discussed in both U.S. and Korean academic circles compared to other prominent Korean issues.
Determined to address this gap, I decided to visit Jeju Island myself. As I explored the island, the idea of a tour program centered around the Jeju 4.3 massacre struck me as invaluable. A simple Google search led me to the Jeju Dark Tours website, and I promptly reached out to inquire about internship opportunities. Now, here I am, at the Jeju Dark Tours office.
In just my first week of the internship, I have already accessed a wealth of high-quality materials and tour programs, thanks to Jeju Dark Tours. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this organization from the outset. This experience will undoubtedly serve as a cornerstone for my future contributions to both U.S. and Korean academic fields.
Thank you once again for this incredible opportunity.
