[Important Announcement – Ministry of Justice, South Korea]
The Ministry of Justice has launched the first joint government crackdown of 2025 on illegal foreign residents, from April 14 to June 29 (77 days). This move is aimed at protecting public safety, minimizing harm to citizens, and regulating violations of immigration laws.
This operation involves cooperation between multiple government agencies, including the Ministry of Justice, National Police Agency, Ministry of Employment and Labor, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Coast Guard.
Key focus areas include:
• Crimes by foreigners that threaten public safety (e.g., drug use, organized crime)
• Illegal employment in construction and delivery sectors
• Brokers facilitating illegal immigration or employment
• Overstayers and those involved in illegal entry/exit activities
During this period, not only will illegal residents be targeted, but also brokers and employers who help them stay or work illegally. Strong penalties such as fines, deportation, and entry bans will be enforced.
This is part of a broader five-year plan to manage illegal immigration and protect both national security and the domestic job market.
