POLYPHONIC LAB OPENING DAY

Polyphonic Lab: Busan(다면적실험실,부산) is an ART SPACE FESTIVAL created to introduce visitors to the city’s diverse independent exhibition spaces and exhibitions during the Busan Biennale period.

With 15 art spaces across Dong-gu, Suyeong-gu, and Haeundae-gu participating, each space continues its own exhibition while becoming part of a larger network connecting different art scenes.

Join us on September 6 as we celebrate the beginning of the art festival.

We’ll gather at Arise at 2 PM for a reception, artist introductions, and networking. From 3:10 PM, we’ll visit four exhibition spaces in Suyeong-gu together.

부산비엔날레 기간, 부산을 찾는 관람객들에게 지역의 다양한 전시공간과 전시를 소개하기 위해 마련된 ART SPACE FESTIVAL, 다면적실험실이 시작됩니다.

동구·수영구·해운대구의 15개 전시공간이 함께 참여해 각자의 공간에서 각기 다른 전시를 이어갑니다.

September is a special month for us, as we welcome you into our newly renovated space with a new exhibition, our regular community gatherings, and a very special first anniversary. Come spend September with us 🫶

A duo exhibition by Sim Seong-a and Anna Bondarenko, bringing together two artists whose practices explore the spaces between surfaces, materials, and perspectives.

《Between Surfaces》는 부산 비엔날레 기간 동안 부산 동구, 수영구, 해운대구의 15개 갤러리가 참여하는 연합전시 《Polyphonic Lab: Busan》의 일환으로 기획되었으며, 수영구청과 문화도시 수영의 지원을 받아 진행됩니다.

표면은 단순히 어떤 것의 바깥을 이루는 층이 아니라 상호작용이 일어나고 흔적이 남는 곳이기도 합니다. 표면은 경계가 될 수 있지만, 동시에 무언가가 통과할 수 있는 투과성의 막이자 교환이 일어나는 장소가 될 수도 있습니다.

《Between Surfaces》는 표면의 위나 아래가 아닌, 표면 그 자체가 지닌 생산적인 모호함 속에 머뭅니다. 한지의 섬유, 천의 직조, 종이의 결은 모두 보존과 흡수, 그리고 변화가 일어나는 장소가 됩니다. 이 전시는 표면이 과연 무엇을 담아낼 수 있는지를 살펴보고 질문하는 기회이자, 우리가 흔히 단순한 외관이나 겉모습으로 치부하는 것이 오히려 가장 깊은 이야기가 펼쳐지는 곳일 수 있음을 바라보는 자리입니다.

This exhibition is presented as part of Polyphonic Lab: Busan, a collaborative exhibition bringing together 15 galleries across Busan’s Suyeong-gu, Dong-gu, and Haeundae-gu during the Busan Biennale period, supported by Suyeong-gu Office and Culture City Suyeong.

The surface is not only the outer layer of something, it is also where interactions happen and marks are left. Surfaces can be boundaries but they can also be permeable membranes through which things can pass. They can be places of exchange.

Between Surfaces lingers in this space, not above or beneath it but within the productive ambiguity of the surface itself. The fibres of Hanji, the weave of a cloth, the grain of paper all become the site of preservation, absorption and change. This exhibition is an opportunity to consider and examine exactly what a surface can hold, and to recognise that what we often dismiss as merely a facade might be where the deepest stories are told.

Learn the basics of Minhwa (Korean folk painting) in this beginner-friendly workshop. You’ll explore traditional painting techniques and create your own 20 × 20 cm painting on a wooden panel to take home.

Performers and would-be performers, listen up!

Since launching Nanuja Night last September, we’ve been blown away by the talent, energy, and joy you’ve brought to our stage. None of it would exist without our incredible host Anu and every single performer who has graced the mic.

To make things smoother for everyone, we’re rolling out two changes:

Consistent scheduling — Nanuja Night will now always fall on the last Saturday of the month.

New sign-up method — Click the link in our bio to access a Google Form. Fill in your details, and we’ll confirm your slot at least two weeks before the performance date.

We hope these changes make things easier for performers and audience members alike, so we can keep creating wonderful things together.

While we have your attention, please remember we are totally open to first-time performers and performances of any kind in any language. If you’ve never tried but have always been curious, this is the most encouraging audience you will find to welcome you onto the stage.
