A new partnership to bring reading closer to children. 📚🌱

In Rong Cham Village, Banteay Meanchey, children who had to leave their homes because of the recent conflict are slowly returning to school and rebuilding their everyday lives. 🏫

But even as school routines return, access to books and educational materials remains limited.

That’s why Sipar is joining forces with Raksa Koma Organisation (RKO) to create a new reading corner for the children, a place to read, learn and discover. 📖✨

📚 When Books Catch the Wind

Can a book fly? Maybe not on its own. But with science, creativity, and imagination, it can take children somewhere new. 📖✨

At The Cambodian Children’s Charity School (CamKids), more than 200 children enjoyed a day filled with stories, laughter, and hands-on STEAM discovery as part of DJ Nana’s “Book Has Wind” event.

Sipar was grateful to join with our STEAM Mobile Library, bringing stories to life through puppet storytelling, then turning curiosity into action with a volcano experiment, origami, and fun STEAM demonstrations. 🌋🔬🎨

For children in rural communities, moments like these can open windows to new ideas, possibilities, and ways of seeing the world beyond what they experience every day.

A young person in the city may have a very different daily life from a young person in a rural community. Different surroundings. Different experiences. Different opportunities. 🌍

But when we listen closely, we often hear the same dreams: to learn, to be respected, to belong, and to have the chance to shape our own future. ✨
That is the heart of this year’s International Youth Day theme: “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”

Across these different contexts, young people are developing practical and creative solutions to the challenges around them, from community initiatives and social innovation to climate action and beyond. Sometimes, it can start with a reading campaign, where members of the High School Youth Council bring young people together to share stories, connect, and learn side by side. 📚

At Sipar, we believe in creating opportunities for young people from rural and urban communities to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and discover what they can achieve together through our Youth Empowerment initiative.

យុវជនស្ម័គ្រចិត្តចំនួន១៨ នាក់មកពី ក្លឹបយុវជនCBO បានដឹកនាំយុទ្ធនាការស្តីពី «ការបញ្ឈប់អំពើហិង្សានៅក្នុងសាលារៀន» ជាលើកដំបូង ដោយមានការចូលរួមពីសិស្សានុសិស្សប្រមាណ២០០ នាក់នៅសាលាបឋមសិក្សាព្រែកសំបួរ ក្នុងសកម្មភាពពេញមួយថ្ងៃដែលរួមមានការរៀនសូត្រ ភាពច្នៃប្រឌិត ភាពសប្បាយរីករាយ និងសំណើចជាច្រើន។ 🎭

Learning, laughing, and standing up for safer schools! 💙

For the first time, our 18 student volunteers from CBO took the lead in a school violence prevention campaign, bringing together around 200 students at Prek Sambour Primary School for a day of fun, learning, creativity, and plenty of laughter. 🎭

But behind all the fun was an important message: every child deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported, both at school and at home. Experiencing violence can affect a child’s mental health, confidence, relationships, and overall wellbeing, as well as making it harder to focus, participate, and enjoy learning. 🤝

🎨 That’s why our CBO volunteers introduced this important topic in a fun and engaging way. Through role-plays, posters, games, and interactive activities, students learned more about preventing violence, respect each other and how each of us can help make school a safer place. 🌱

And this is only the beginning. Our CBO will bring this campaign to more schools, giving more students the chance to learn, participate, and play their part in creating a safer and happier place to learn.

Because a safe school is a better place to learn, grow, and have fun. ✨

🌱 “Growing up outside the city, my understanding of careers was shaped by what I saw around me.”

For Ms. Cheang Sopheara, Assistant Manager, People Performance and Culture at KPMG Cambodia, this was more than a childhood memory. It became the reason why meeting high school students through Sipar’s Youth Empowerment initiative and Panel Discussion on Major & Career Alignment and Mismatch meant so much to her. 💡

As she reflected,

✨“Like many students, I aspired to become a doctor because it was one of the few professions I knew. When that path did not work out as planned, I felt uncertain about my future and had little awareness of the alternatives available to me.”

That experience shaped the way she sees young people today, especially those growing up in rural communities.

🌱 “Potential is everywhere, but exposure is not.”

Seeing students’ curiosity, thoughtful questions, and eagerness to explore their future careers reminded her why opportunities like this matter. Together with KPMG Cambodia, students were given a window into new possibilities, where real stories, professional experiences, and meaningful conversations opened their eyes to the corporate world and helped them imagine a future beyond what they already knew. 🌍

As Ms. Sopheara shared,

💬“Many students in rural communities have strong aspirations but limited exposure to career pathways and professional role models.”

The conversations with students also reflected a lesson she learned through her own journey:

“It is okay not to have everything figured out right away. Career journeys are often shaped by learning, exploration, and new experiences, and it is never too late to discover your strengths, pursue your goals, or change direction when needed.”

🌍 Did you know that climate change is already impacting communities across Cambodia through rising temperatures, changing weather patterns, floods, and droughts?

At Sipar, we believe that before helping young people become informed and engaged citizens, we must first equip ourselves with the right knowledge and tools.

That's why our entire team, from project staff to management, recently took part in a Climate Fresk workshop led by Clément and supported by Climate Fresk Foundation. The Climate Fresk is an interactive, science-based workshop. Through collaborative activities, participants explore the chain of causes and consequences behind climate change.

With cards, conversations, and teamwork, we aim to answer one important question: how can we help young people better understand and respond to the climate challenges they face?

For Sipar, this knowledge will continue beyond our team, bringing new climate lessons into schools, helping Cambodian youth become more aware and engaged in protecting their future. 🌱

Every evening, after a long day of work, many parents watch their children open their books, complete their homework, and prepare for another day at school. 🎒

✏️🔢 This month, Sipar is launching Literacy Classes in three brick factories, with support from the Department of Education in Muk Kampul District MoEYS Cambodia. Starting with simple but essential reading, writing, and mathematics lessons, these classes create opportunities for parents and teenagers to continue their learning journey, with the hope of expanding to more partner brick factories in the future.

🛵 From Observation to Action: Youth Leading the Way for Safer Journeys

Every morning, students take the same road to school. Some ride motorcycles, some travel by bicycle, and some travel with their families. But one question remained:

“Are these journeys safe?”

At Romeas Hek High School, our VIA Ambassadors, supported by TotalEnergies Foundation, decided to find the answer.

📊 Early in the morning, they stood at the school gate, watching and learning from the daily journeys of their classmates. They observed helmet use, recorded travel habits, and listened to the road safety challenges students faced on their way to school.

Through these observations, the young ambassadors began evaluating the situation and identifying the right solutions to make journeys safer. 💙

🔎 From observation and evaluation came the next step: taking action for safer journeys.

With what they learned, the young ambassadors carried their message beyond their own school. They visited Kampong Trach Primary School and Andong Por Secondary School to share road safety knowledge, explain important traffic signs, and encourage students to protect themselves by wearing helmets when travelling.

That is exactly why this year's World Youth Skills Day theme, "Skills for a shared future," resonates so strongly with us.

At Sipar, we believe these skills aren't learned only in a classroom, they are developed through experience.

📚Through our Youth Empowerment Program, students don't just learn about leadership, civic engagement or career planning; they put these skills into practice. They organize awareness campaigns, lead Youth Councils, connect with professionals during Career Forums, strengthen their digital literacy, explore career opportunities and become active contributors to their schools and communities.

✨Today, this initiative reaches more than 35,000 young people through 25 rural public high schools, 23 youth-led Community-Based Organizations, one Youth Center, one National Youth Center and one Juvenile Rehabilitation Center across Cambodia.

Preparing young people for tomorrow means helping them develop the skills to navigate a changing world and play an active role in their communities. 🎉
