New Children Daycare Center

My name is Dalin Eng I am the manager of the New Children Daycare Centre in Phenom Phen. We are a very small day care centre, whose focus is to provide education and well-being for children in the slum areas in Phenom Phen. My partner and I set up the centre with our own money because we have been so moved by the suffering and hopelessness of the children living in the slums, we set up the daycare

to provide a safe place for the children to go to while their parents worked. The Day care centre itself is in a good building with plenty of room for children to play. It has a bathroom, where the children can shower and clean themselves with fresh running water. Four local people from the slum work as a housemother, a caretaker and two teachers. We provide daily writing and reading lessons in Khmer and English. This is run by us and volunteers. We also have lots of toys for the children to play with and other things that can be matched to the children’s need to allow them improve their life skills and learning as they grow. We want to provide these children with the tools to enable them to make a better future for themselves and their children.
