Golden Brilliance: The Golden Trumpet 💛✨

For Week 15 of our weekly series, we highlight the vibrant Golden Trumpet. Famed for its bold, bell-shaped blossoms and glossy foliage, this fast-growing tropical shrub adds a radiant splash of color to outdoor garden trellises, fences, and patio borders.

A favorite among local wildlife, its nectar-rich flowers naturally draw butterflies and sunbirds into the garden. By covering vertical spaces and capturing airborne particulates with its broad leaves, the Golden Trumpet brings both stunning beauty and natural cooling to our urban spaces! 🌿☀️

Being part of AJYELN 2.0 2026 as a representative of Cambodia and a member of the Coastal Pulse Team has been a meaningful journey of learning, connection, and growth as a young environmental leader.

Through the workshops and training sessions, I strengthened my understanding of environmental challenges, behaviour change, and project management. More importantly, I was able to bring these lessons directly into our team’s project refinement, challenging our ideas, improving our approach, and thinking more carefully about how our project can create meaningful and lasting impact in the community.

One of the most memorable parts of this journey has been meeting young leaders from across ASEAN and Japan. Despite coming from different backgrounds and countries, we share a common goal: creating a more sustainable and resilient future. The conversations, ideas, and support we exchanged reminded me that collaboration can turn different perspectives into stronger solutions.

AJYELN has also taught me that leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about being willing to listen, learn, adapt, and take action.

“Leadership begins with learning, but its true value is measured by what we choose to do with what we have learned.” - Chansovichea Duch

As a representative of Cambodia, I am deeply grateful to have participated in AJYELN 2.0. Through Team Coastal Pulse, I had the wonderful opportunity to connect with and learn from other young environmental leaders.

Participating in the program taught me that plastic pollution is a critical global crisis requiring immediate action and heightened awareness. It provided me with profound insights into this issue, along with the essential leadership skills needed to make a meaningful impact in our communities.

By collaborating and exchanging ideas with young leaders from across ASEAN and Japan, our team refined our project to maximize its impact. Moving forward, we are fully committed to applying everything we have learned to tackle plastic waste directly within our community.

Representing the Cambodia Team - Coastal Pulse at ASEAN-Japan Young Environmental Leaders Network (AJYELN) 2026 in Jakarta, with the regional theme "𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜-𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧", has been an intensive journey of strategic growth. Visiting the ASEAN Secretariat allowed us to align our grassroots mission with regional frameworks, shifting our focus from simple awareness-building to designing scalable, circular economy solutions for plastic-resilient communities.

Through expert-led project management training, methodology design, and cross-border exchanges with delegates across ASEAN and Japan, we equipped our team with the tools to tackle marine plastic waste and local waste management challenges head-on.

True to the core strategy of AJYELN, this program proved that isolated efforts are not enough to combat regional environmental crises. As Haingveang Taing notes, "Sharing and collaborating create more impact." Empowered with these strategic insights and a powerful regional network, Team Coastal Pulse is ready to translate this training into measurable, community-driven action back home.

Representing Cambodian youth at the ASEAN-JAPAN Young Environmental Leaders Network (AJYELN 2026) in Jakarta, Indonesia, was an empowering and eye-opening experience for our team, including Haingveang Taing , Chansovichea Duch , and Savatey Ang (Tey)! 🇰🇭✨

Throughout the program, we had the incredible opportunity to dive deep into youth advocacy in environmental policy at the ASEAN Secretariat, explore sustainable waste management firsthand during our site visit to the climate-tech and sustainable startup, and sharpen our technical skills through hands-on training on the Plastic Circular Economy. Beyond policy and circular business models, we honed our skills in project management, creative campaigning, and ArcGIS tools to maximize our local environmental impact. Working alongside passionate leaders from across the region, co-designing regional initiatives, and celebrating our shared cultures truly reinforced that youth are not just future leaders; we are active drivers of environmental change today.

Stay tuned for our team's personal insights and reflections. 🙌

From fundamental principles to large-scale implementation, our Nature-based Solutions (NbS) series explored how working with natural systems protects our environment, strengthens our economy, and safeguards our communities.

Here is the big picture:
- The Foundation: Moving beyond "just planting trees" to strategic, standard-driven land and water management (IUCN).
- The Triple Benefit: Proving that ecological infrastructure saves costs, creates green jobs, and protects both people and planet.
- The Connected Landscape: Master planning from mountains down to cities and coastlines, because nature operates without borders.
- The Action: Empowering young leaders and professionals to translate complex science into real-world impact.

This initiative and content series was led by Chansovichea Duch, driving our mission toward ecological design and youth-led climate advocacy! 👏✨
