Did you know that Cambodia is moving to a malaria-free future? 🚫🦟

As Cambodia increases malaria elimination efforts, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) works to support the National Center for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control and subnational health structures to enhance malaria testing coverage to hard-to-reach populations in Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, Stung Treng, and Preah Vihear provinces. High testing coverage is important for early malaria case detection and management, which helps to reduce the risk of malaria transmission within the community.

Under the RAI4E Project, funded by the Global Fund, 120,617 malaria tests were conducted for people in these four provinces from January to June 2026, and one malaria case (P. vivax), classified as an international-imported case, was detected. The patient then received proper treatment in accordance with the national treatment guideline.

ចាប់ពីឆ្នាំ 2024 ដល់ឆ្នាំ 2025 ជនជាប់ឃុំចំនួន 13.222 នាក់ (ឬ 30%) ត្រូវបានធ្វើតេស្តរកមេរោគអេដស៍ និងមានជនជាប់ឃុំសរុបចំនួន 819នាក់ បានទទួលសេវាពីថ្នាំប្រឆាំងមេរោគអេដស៍ពីមន្ត្រីពន្ធនាគារ និងក្រុមគ្រូពេទ្យ ព្រមទាំងក្រុមការងារអង្គការនៅសេវាថ្នាំប្រឆាំងមេរោគអេដស៍ ។

CRS and Partners, in cooperation with the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Dermatology, and STD (NCHADS) and the General Department of Prisons (GDP), provide technical assistance to prisons/closed settings staff for HIV services in prisons in education, counseling, HIV testing, and ART services, including follow-up care and integration in the communities.

Detainees across 29 prisons/closed settings can access HIV testing, care, and treatment services.

From 2024 to 2025, 13,222 (or 30%) of detainees were tested for HIV, and 819 PLHIV detainees got ART services from health post officers in prisons/closed settings, healthcare providers, and NGOs in ART sites.

During the 2025 rainy season, rising malaria cases in Siem Pang District, Stung Treng Province, prompted the National Center for Parasitology, Entomology, and Malaria Control (CNM), together with the provincial health department, local authorities, and partners, to launch a 60-day mass drug administration (MDA) campaign to halt transmission.

CRS played a key role in supporting the planning and implementation, working closely with the PHD, operational district, health center staff, and partners to ensure strong community-level coordination. Implemented in target villages within the catchment areas of Siem Pang and Santepheap Health Centers, the campaign resulted in no further confirmed malaria cases since October 2025, an important step toward malaria elimination in Stung Treng and Cambodia.
