ផ្កាថ្មប្រែជាពណ៌ស ពិតជាមិនល្អសោះឆ្នាំនេះ។
នៅពេលដែលទឹកប្រែជាក្ដៅ ផ្កាថ្មនឹងខ្ជាក់ algaeដែលរស់នៅលើជលិកាផ្កាថ្ម ដែលធ្វើអោយផ្កាថ្មប្រែជាពណ៌ស។ដំណើរការនេះហៅថា coral bleaching។ផ្កាថ្មមិនងាប់នៅពេលដែល ប្រែជាពណ៌សទេ វាអាចរស់បាន។ ក៏ប៉ុន្តែនៅពេលដែលពួកវារងនូវសម្ពាធពីមជ្ឍដ្ឋានជុំវិញក្រោយពីbleaching អាចធ្វើអោយវាងាប់បាន នេះបើយ៉ោងទៅតាម “ រដ្ឋាបាលបរិយាកាសនិងសមុទ្រជាតិឬហៅកាត់ថា NOAA”។

១. រូបខាងលើ ជាផ្កាថ្មដែលមានសុខភាពល្អ ក្រោយកាត់សំណាញ់ចេញនៅថ្ងៃទី ១៧ ខែមេសា។
២. រូបខាងក្រោម ខាងឆ្វេង ជាផ្កាថ្មដដែលតែត្រូវបានប្រែជាពណ៌ស (bleached) នៅថ្ងៃទី ២០ ខែឧសភា។
៣. រូបខាងក្រោម ខាងស្ដាំ នៅថ្ងៃ Ocean Day ( ០៨ ខែមិថុនា ២០២៤) ថ្ងៃដែលពួកយើងត្រលប់មកសម្អាតផ្កាថ្ម បានឃើញថានៅជម្រៅ៥ម៉ែត្រផ្កាថ្មភាគច្រើនក្លាយជាពណ៌ស ( bleached)។
Coral bleaching is very bad this year!
"When water is too warm, corals will expel the algae living in their tissues causing the coral to turn completely white. This is called coral bleaching. When a coral bleaches, it is not dead. Coral can survive a bleaching event, but they are under more stress and are subject to mortality." National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

1. Top: Healthy coral colony when we went to cut off fishing net on 17th April
2. Bottom Left; The same colony all bleaching when we went back there on 20th May
3. Bottom Right; The ocean day, we went back again for reef clean up and noticed most of corals on this shallow (-5m) reef are bleaching.
