Ten retired fishing boats. Ten new lives. Art for Kep has just opened "Ten Boats+" — an international open call inviting artists, collectives, galleries, and community groups to transform Kep's retired wooden fishing hulls into contemporary artworks. It's the foundation of Kep International Art Week, Edition 01, landing on Cambodia's southern coast from 11–14 December 2026. Applications are open now, with info sessions in Phnom Penh (25 Aug) and Siem Reap (27 Aug). Art for Kep welcomes Khmer diaspora filmmaker ChanChrisna "Kayleb" Lee for a one-month residency, beginning 17 August 2026. Lee is in Kep for research and development on his upcoming film, "How to Grow a Ghost" — a story about a diaspora couple rebuilding a family farm, and quietly building a spirit of their own. Rooted in ancestral memory and traditional Khmer healing practices, his month will bring him close to Kep's coastal communities and environmental initiatives. 🌊 A NEW CHAPTER FOR KEP 🎨

On 7 August, the Cambodia Tourism Board officially partnered with Art for Kep to boost the international profile of Kep — and of the S.E.A. Ocean Gallery, Southeast Asia's future first underwater art museum 🎨🐠

Backed by CTB's Matching Grant programme, the agreement means Cambodia's national tourism authority will now help amplify Kep and the Ocean Gallery to audiences abroad — putting this small coastal town firmly on the map alongside its crab, its coastline, and now, its art beneath the waves.

Once installed on the seabed within a marine protected area, the Gallery's sculptures won't just be art — they're designed to host marine life and grow into real artificial reefs, pairing contemporary art with marine conservation led by Art for Kep, Kep West and Marine Conservation Cambodia.

As Art for Kep Chairman Jef Moons put it: "We began with a simple conviction: that Kep deserves to be known for more than its coastline." This partnership is a major step toward that vision.

📍 Kep — part of Cambodia Bay, member of The Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club since 2011 — just got another reason to watch closely.

"I'm really happy to get back to look for art series in Kep, especially this place along the beach."

Photographer Aurélie Fischer's path to Cambodia started with a plane ticket she almost didn't need to buy — a stopover that turned into a career when COVID left her alone with a camera in the temples of Angkor. Years later, she's now in residence with Art for Kep, turning her lens on Kep's fishermen, market vendors and craftsmen.

A blue swimmer crab held between fingers at the night market. A weathered hand hovering over a pile of rambutans. These aren't tourist snapshots — they're close, patient images from someone who's spent years learning to be trusted with the details of a place.

Hands, crabs, and Kep market mornings. 🦀

Photographer Aurélie Fischer’s residency with Art for Kep is turning into a quiet, intimate portrait of Kep’s fishing and market communities — a crab seller’s grip, a fisherman’s catch, a vendor sorting fruit at dawn. Small gestures, seen closely.

Her path here started with a stopover in Cambodia that became a decade-long career behind the camera. Full story on the blog — link in bio.
