Meet Said!

Said is currently in Grade 10 and has developed a real passion for computer coding, particularly HTML and building websites. He loves putting his ideas into practice and seeing what he can create on the screen.

He’s working hard at school and hopes that, after finishing his studies, he can go on to college to continue learning programming and eventually turn his passion into a career.

We love seeing our children discover the things that inspire them and start thinking about where those skills might take them in the future.

Diana has been home for the holidays

We are pleased to share that Diana is back at the Happy House for the holidays. After spending time in Mombasa studying Hospitality at college, she has settled in well, making new friends and gaining valuable independence.

During her break, Diana is staying with the girls in one of our Half Way Houses. This arrangement allows her and other older young people to develop everyday skills and responsibilities while still having the support of their Happy House family. It's a significant step for Diana as she continues to grow in confidence and prepares for her future.

We are grateful to all the sponsors and supporters who have helped Diana on her journey. Your continued support makes milestones like this possible for our young people. We are proud of Diana and look forward to hearing more about her experiences!

Making play safer

Recently, Daudi and his friends took on the important task of cutting the long grass around Happy House. This initiative was not just about tidying up; it was about ensuring a safe environment for the younger children and everyone who calls Happy House home. By clearing the grass, they are contributing to a cleaner and more enjoyable space for all.

It's heartwarming to see our older children stepping up and taking responsibility for their surroundings. Their teamwork and dedication to caring for each other exemplify the values we cherish. A big thank you to Daudi and the entire team for their hard work and commitment. We're proud of the positive example they set for everyone at Happy House.

Ever wondered what it takes to feed the Happy House family each week?

With around 55 children to feed, our weekly shopping list is a big one!

Just some of the basics we get through include 50kg of rice, 15kg of potatoes, 15kg of beans, 8kg of spaghetti and 18kg of tomatoes - every single week!

And that’s before we add meat and the fresh vegetables we grow ourselves at Happy House.

Our basic weekly food bill is around £300 / €350, and it’s only possible thanks to the wonderful people who sponsor our children and donate to Happy House. ❤️

Every donation, big or small and every sponsor, helps us make sure there is nutritious food on the table, day after day.

Thank you for helping us feed our Happy House family. 🏠❤️

Holidays have been fun

As we wrap up a wonderful school holiday, Jessica shares some highlights from the past weeks. The children have had a fantastic time filled with swimming at the beach, nature walks, sports, debates, disco, and quizzes. It has truly been a season of joy and adventure, creating many happy memories.

With the holidays coming to a close, the kids are now preparing to return to school, excited and ready to learn. We look forward to seeing them refreshed and eager to dive back into their studies.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this holiday possible. Your kindness and support have given our children experiences they will cherish. A special shoutout goes to our visitors and volunteers who have become friends, as well as to all our supporters around the world.

Our children certainly love a bit of karaoke day or night!

Here, Esther and Samira are giving us their rendition of a Happy House favourite, “Shine Jesus Shine”. There’s never a shortage of music, singing and smiles in our Happy House family!

A chance to visit relatives

Recently at Happy House, there was a wonderful atmosphere as Nickson and Brian Makotsi prepared for a special visit home. Their older brother came to pick them up, and the boys were all smiles, excited to spend time with their family.

Family visits are meaningful occasions for the children at Happy House. They not only allow them to reconnect and share memories but also to experience the love and warmth of their family members. This time together is invaluable, as it provides support and joy, even if just for a few days.

We wish Nickson and Brian a safe journey and hope they have a fantastic time at home. We look forward to hearing all about their visit when they return!

Adventures ahoy!

Our children had a wonderful day at the beach recently, which was made even more special as trustee Lewis Hall celebrated his birthday with us. With the tide low, the kids were able to walk across the sand to a small “island” along the beautiful Watamu coastline.

They enjoyed exploring, climbing over rocks, and playing together in the pristine waters. These simple adventures often create the best memories, and it was heartwarming to see the joy on their faces. By the time we returned home, there were plenty of tired but happy children.

We are grateful to our friends and supporters for making these experiences possible. Your ongoing support helps us provide not just a safe and loving home, but also opportunities for our children to create lasting memories.
