Our organization CEO Mr. Abdirahman Rashid Farah, joined distinguished African Fourth Estate , media practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders at the First Annual Pan-African Media Summit 2026 held in Nairobi, Kenya under the theme: “Promoting Conversations on Information Integrity, Digital Platforms, and Media in Africa.”

The high-level summit, hosted by the Media Council of Kenya, convened editors, journalists, media regulators, development partners, diplomats, high commissioners, representatives from Intergovernmental Authority on Development IGAD, the African Union AU, civil society actors, and communication experts from over 33 African countries at the prestigious Safari Park Hotel & Casino Nairobi.

The summit served as a continental platform for strategic dialogue and policy engagement on emerging challenges shaping Africa’s media and digital information ecosystem. Deliberations extensively focused on information integrity, artificial intelligence (AI), digital governance, media sustainability, ethical journalism, platform accountability, digital transformation, and the growing threat of disinformation, misinformation, and coordinated influence operations across the continent.

Participants emphasized the urgent need for resilient media systems, fact-based journalism, responsible AI deployment, and cross-border collaboration to safeguard democratic values and public trust in the digital age.

Media institutions continue to play a central role in strengthening democratic governance, promoting transparency and accountability, enhancing civic participation, and ensuring equitable access to credible and verified information. In an era increasingly affected by AI-generated misinformation, synthetic media manipulation, and malicious digital propaganda, safeguarding information integrity remains a collective continental responsibility.

Media Citizens Front Organization reaffirms its unwavering commitment to ethical journalism, credible reporting, media literacy, digital responsibility, and the protection of information integrity against AI-generated misleading content, disinformation networks, and coordinated manipulation campaigns.

On behalf of Media Citizens Front Organization, our CEO Mr. Abdirahman Rashid Farah participated in a high-level engagement at the Press Club forum on Women’s Economic Rights in Agriculture, hosted by the Kenya Editors Guild under the leadership of President Zubeida Kananu at the Sarova Stanley Hotel, Nairobi.

The forum served as an important capacity-building platform focusing on key issues shaping women’s participation in agriculture. Discussions explored critical areas including women’s land rights, inclusive policy frameworks, financial inclusion, and improved market access for women farmers and agripreneurs.

Panelists emphasized that science, research, climate-smart agriculture, and knowledge-driven farming practices are essential pillars for empowering women and strengthening sustainable agricultural systems.

Media Citizens Front today participated in a high-level stakeholder engagement convened and hosted by Pastoralist Rights and Advocacy Network (PARANET), focusing on the implications of negotiated democracy in Northern Kenya, with particular attention to Wajir County.

The forum, implemented under PARANET’s broader governance and civic engagement program, examined the evolving practice of negotiated democracy and its far-reaching consequences on democratic space, service delivery, political inclusion, and electoral accountability. By bringing together journalists, mainstream Correspondents, Online Digital media Owners, Freelance Editors, Radio presenters and CommunicationExperts, PARANET created a timely platform to interrogate how consensus-based political arrangements influence transparency, citizen participation, and development outcomes at the county level.

PARANET underscored that while negotiated democracy is often presented as a conflict-management tool in pastoralist regions, its long-term effects on representation, competition, and public oversight require careful scrutiny. The organization emphasized the need to balance social cohesion with constitutional principles, ensuring that governance frameworks remain people-centered and responsive to community needs.

Media Citizens Front, as a collaborating partner, highlighted the critical responsibility of the media in safeguarding democratic values. Participants noted that when political processes shift from open electoral competition to closed-door agreements, voter agency risks being diminished and public accountability weakened. The engagement therefore reinforced the role of the Fourth Estate in promoting transparency, amplifying marginalized voices, and fostering informed, issue-based political discourse.

This collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening ties between Media Citizens Front and PARANET. Both organizations reaffirmed their shared commitment to expanding democratic space, enhancing media professionalism, deepening civic awareness, and supporting free, fair, and transparent electoral processes. Through sustained dialogue and joint initiatives, PARANET continues to lead efforts in critically assessing negotiated democracy and its implications for equitable service delivery and accountable governance in pastoralist communities.

IN PICTURES: Second Annual 2025 Wajir County Media Summit Dinner.

We successfully hosted the Second Annual 2025 Wajir County Media Summit Dinner under the timely and powerful theme:
“Journalists as Architects of Peace and Community Dialogue.”

The summit brought together 35 journalists representing digital media platforms, radio stations, freelance journalism, and correspondents from leading mainstream media houses. This diverse and representative gathering reflected a shared commitment to ethical journalism, credible storytelling, and community-centered reporting.

The summit was graced by our Chief Guest, Mr. Ken Bosire, a Consulting and Training Editor, who attended on behalf of the President of the Kenya Editors’ Guild, Ms. Zubeida Kananu. We were also honored by the presence and insightful contributions of our distinguished speakers, Chief Principal Adan Kasim Farah and Hon. Fatuma Fille Elmi, whose perspectives enriched the dialogue on media, leadership, and peacebuilding.

This second annual convening provided a critical platform for reflection on the indispensable role of local journalism in promoting peace, social cohesion, and informed public discourse. Journalists engaged in thoughtful and practical discussions on conflict-sensitive reporting, ethical journalism, and constructive community engagement as essential tools for combating misinformation, de-escalating tensions, and fostering dialogue.

A special focus was placed on cross-border peacebuilding, with journalists sharing firsthand experiences from inter-county and inter-community reporting. These exchanges highlighted the media’s unique power to amplify peace narratives, counter harmful rumors, and elevate the voices of marginalized and border communities whose stories are too often overlooked.

Throughout the summit, journalists were recognized not merely as observers, but as active agents of peace. Through storytelling, investigative reporting, and everyday community engagement, the media continues to play a vital role in bridging divides, building trust, and supporting peaceful coexistence.

We sincerely and gratefully acknowledge our partners who sponsored, funded, and supported the Second Annual 2025 Wajir County Media Summit Dinner. We extend our deepest appreciation to the Rural Agency for Community Development and Assistance (RACIDA) for its unwavering commitment to peacebuilding, community empowerment, and regional stability across the Horn of Africa.

We also thank Ahmednasir Abdullahi Advocates for supporting the summit as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Our appreciation further extends to Cabinet Secretary Aden Bare Duale for supporting the summit through the donation of record books, and to our steadfast local financial partners Absa Bank Kenya (Wajir Branch), KCB Bank, Premier Bank, and Equity Bank for recognizing and supporting media-led peace initiatives.

Additional partners who supported the summit include: Climate and Health Connect, Islamic Relief Kenya, Siyad Foundation, North Eastern Conservancies Association, Wajir Peace and Development Agency, Pastoralists Rights and Advocacy Network (PARANET), Women for Women Alliance, Green Globe Realisation, Free Press Publishers, Carmel Hospital, First Oil Limited, Development Agency Wajir Netherlands, Golweyn Women and Youth Empowerment, Sabuli Wildlife Conservancy, Women Initiative for Prosperity, The Eclipse of the Sun book, Sabunley Secondary Alumni, Women Rights Advocacy Initiative, Tidco Networks, and I-Fly Air Company.

The summit concluded with a strong call for deeper regional media collaboration, sustained peace-focused reporting, and joint initiatives that promote stability, trust, and mutual understanding across communities and borders.

Our organization, represented by CEO Mr. Abdirahman Rashid Farah, proudly participated in the 3rd Annual Media–Civil Society Conference held at the Ole Sereni Hotel, Nairobi.
This year’s theme, “Media and Civil Society as Guardians of Kenya’s Democratic Space,” brought together key national stakeholders committed to protecting civic freedom and strengthening democratic resilience.

The conference was hosted by Transparency International Kenya (TI-K) under the TUNU Project, funded by the European Union, in partnership with the Kenya Correspondents Association and CFF.

Throughout the sessions, participants engaged deeply on critical issues including:

* The state of civic space & media in Kenya
* Accountability, governance & anti-corruption reporting
* AI, digital rights & cybersecurity
* Disinformation and technology’s impact on civic voice
* Election preparedness
* Health, wellness & mental-health support for journalists

During the event, our CEO held a working lunch and shared a discussion panel with Cristina Barrios, Head of Political, Press & Information at the EU Delegation. Their conversation centered on press freedom in Northern Kenya and the need for future partnership engagements to support local media and civic actors.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Transparency International Kenya, whose leadership continues to empower journalists and civil society organizations including those from Wajir County in advancing investigative reporting, combating corruption, and expanding civic participation across the region.

Together, we move forward in strengthening media independence and safeguarding Kenya’s democratic space.
