Drought Care Alliance was honored to be invited and to take part in Youth SDGs Week by & Kenya Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security , a powerful 5-day convening that brought together young leaders from across Kenya to engage, learn, and collaborate on advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. We were represented by Hani Abdikadir during the event.

Representing Wajir, we joined fellow youth in meaningful dialogue on how youth-led solutions are not just important but essential in translating the SDGs from global commitments into lived realities within our communities. Our discussions centered on key priority areas including SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation – WASH), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), all deeply interconnected pillars for sustainable and inclusive development.

We were privileged to have the event presided over by the Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering young people as drivers of national transformation.

Throughout the week, we engaged in illuminating panel discussions and interactive sessions that highlighted the power of youth-led partnerships, innovation, and grassroots action. These conversations reinforced the critical role young people play in shaping resilient, peaceful, and sustainable futures.

Beyond the sessions, we built meaningful connections with changemakers from across the country, exchanged ideas, and strengthened networks that will continue to support collaborative impact long after the event.

DCA was honored to be a part of such an amazing initiative.

Recap of day 3 of MIL training during UNESCO o Kenya Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security UNESCO Youth European Union in Kenya 's SM4P campaign last week. We finished our training on Media Information and Literacy and Digital Rights. Day 3 was for conclusion and pitching of our 3-minute innovative pitch for projects. As DCA, we proposed a 2-day MIL training in Wajir to devolve this countrywide program to youth in marginalized counties of Wajir. The youth were to be chosen from the 6 counties and given comprehensive training on Media literacy and Digital Rights and how to handle information disorders like disinformation,Misinformation and Malinformation against and toward them online. We are now certified MIL TOTs and hope to take this information to the communities we serve.

It was a successful training and we are grateful for all the partners that made it possible and all the other organizations that were there along us. We hope to be part of such more initiatives in the future and we are grateful for the knowledge we now have that we are going to use to impact the increasing numbers of Somali youth online. It was overall a successful 3days and DCA is grateful.

Today marked the commencement of the MIL training bootcamp and it was nothing less than a smashing success. A full day of interactions, learning, realizations and networking compounded. We are truly honored that we got to take part of this courtesy of & . It was a very enlightening day for our representatives and our organization by extension. Discussions ranged from combatting harmful content online, causes of digital divide and emerging digital rights, MIL missions and how to integrate them in implementation as grassroots organization and so much more. These discussions will go on to inform our policy making on digital safety for the rural communities we serve. We hope to trickle down the knowledge and impact of this very crucial program to the increasing number of Somali youth online in undeserved marginalized ASAL communities. Looking forward to day 2 cause one can only imagine how much better the knowledge exchange will only get.
