Women Rising Through Conservation: Empowerment Powered by the REDD+ Project in Kenya

Across Kenya, women are taking the lead in advancing sustainable forest management through the REDD+ Project. By integrating conservation with community empowerment, the project is equipping women with knowledge, skills, and opportunities to become agents of change in their local environments.

Through activities such as tree nursery establishment, forest monitoring, and sustainable livelihood programs, women are contributing directly to climate change mitigation while improving household incomes and strengthening community resilience.

The REDD+ Project demonstrates that when women are empowered, both people and nature thrive. Their leadership is vital in ensuring that conservation and sustainable development move forward together — creating lasting impact for generations to come.

🏥✨ Expansion of Buguta Health Facility Complete!

Great news for the Kasigau community! The expansion of Buguta Health Facility is now complete — a major milestone that will enhance access to quality healthcare services for more than 13,000 residents.

As one of the busiest health facilities in Taita Taveta County, Buguta Health Centre now boasts new six consultation rooms and fully equipped store, ensuring efficient and reliable service delivery to the community.

The project was initiated through community public participation, following calls to upgrade the facility for better healthcare access and improved service delivery.

Implemented by Wildlife Works East Africa in Partnership with the Kasigau Development Trust (KDT) Community-Based Organisation, the expansion was funded through proceeds from the Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Carbon Project (KCRP) — an initiative that rewards local communities for their continued efforts in forest and wildlife protection. 🌳🐘

Together, we continue to build a healthier, empowered, and environmentally responsible community through conservation-driven development.
