I have been part of CU in the University spaces long enough to see how things really work.
On Sunday, people are holy.
Bibles open.
Hands raised.
Voices soft.
On Monday, the same hands are holding other people in dark hostels.
The same mouths are lying.
The same voices are negotiating secrecy.
I’ve watched people pray passionately and then plan sleepovers like they’re planning group discussions. I’ve seen “brothers” es**rt “sisters” back to their rooms… and not leave.
No one calls it sin.
They call it “weakness.”
They call it “struggle.”
They call it “God understands.”
But the leadership structure?
Intact.
Positions are held.
Microphones are passed.
Titles remain.
Dating exists in CU, just not honestly.
People don’t say “this is my partner.”
They say “we’re praying about it.”
They say “we’re guarding our testimony.”
Meanwhile, feelings are involved. Bodies are involved. Jealousy is involved.
What they’re guarding isn’t holiness.
It’s reputation.
I’ve seen relationships end badly, yet on Sunday, the same people are leading worship side by side like nothing happened. I’ve seen sisters cry quietly while serving communion. I’ve seen brothers preach purity while living opposite lives.
And no one asks hard questions.
Because asking questions means looking at ourselves.
I’m not innocent.
I’ve sat there.
I’ve watched.
I’ve kept quiet.
Because CU teaches you how to look clean even when things are messy.
What shocked me wasn’t that people struggle. That’s human.
What shocked me was how normal the pretending became.
How easily sin turned into structure.
How easily confession turned into performance.
How easily truth became inconvenient.
And yet, people still get hurt.
Hearts break.
Trust breaks.
Faith breaks.
But the program continues.
The songs are sung.
The altar call is made.
The illusion is preserved.
I’m not saying people shouldn’t be in CU.
I’m not saying faith is fake.
I’m saying honesty is missing.
Because holiness without truth is just theatre
