Theme: "Education, Skills and the Future"

On this day in 1963, Kenya took charge of its own destiny, and for over three decades, SACDEP Kenya has walked alongside rural communities across Kenya, training smallholder farmers in Ecological farming, sustainable land use, and agribusiness skills because we believe freedom is knowing that your soil is healthy, your harvest is yours, and your family is fed.

This Madaraka Day, we celebrate every woman who has turned degraded land into a thriving kitchen garden, every youth who has chosen the farm as a place of innovation, and every community that has said: we have what it takes.

🌱📚 Cultivating the next generation of agroecology champions!

SACDEP, in collaboration with Pelum Kenya, is implementing the Promoting Agroecology in School Feeding (PASF) programme across 5 schools in Murang'a County.

The programme aims to improve food security, nutrition, and pupil retention in public primary schools by 2028 through sustainable school feeding initiatives and the adoption of agroecological practices.

Through the existing 4K Clubs, pupils are being empowered with practical knowledge and skills in:

1. Establishing school kitchen gardens
2. Agroecology practices and principles
3. Garden nurturing and maintenance
4. Sustainable food production for healthier communities

By investing in young learners today, we are building resilient food systems and nurturing future environmental stewards.

🌱 Strengthening Agroecology Through Partnerships 🤝

SACDEP Kenya joined farmers, partners, and stakeholders at a vibrant Farmers’ Field Day hosted at Ruhiu’s Organic Farm in Ting’ang’a, Kiambu County. The event was held under the theme: “Enhancing Agroecology through Bioinputs and Partnership.”

The field day provided a great platform for learning, knowledge exchange, and showcasing sustainable farming practices that promote healthy soils, safe food production, and resilient farming systems. Farmers had the opportunity to interact with experts and explore the use of bioinputs as environmentally friendly solutions for increased productivity and sustainability.

Together, we can champion agroecology for a healthier planet and improved livelihoods. 💚

SACDEP Kenya in collaboration with the Nyandarua County Government, Department of Water, Sanitation, Tourism, Environment, Natural Resources & Climate Change, brought together stakeholders and community representatives of Nyandarua County for a post passage advocacy forum.

This is to sensitize them on the provisions of the Natural Resource Management (NRM) Policy and the Wetlands and Riparian Areas Management Bill. This document will help to take care of the resources in Nyandarua County.

Because policy change starts at the grassroots. 💪
