STAND WITH JAMES ODHIAMBO LAWI — STAND WITH SIAYA
What happens when a 61-year-old community defender repeatedly has to report to the authorities over terrorism-related allegations — but is left waiting without being interviewed?
That is the concern FSANP is raising following James Odhiambo Lawi's appearance before the authorities on August 6.
James was released from custody on August 4 after his family and community raised KES 180,000 as bond. FSANP has also raised concerns about his reported access to medical care while detained.
Now, he has been summoned again for August 20.
We believe communities have a right to ask questions about projects that may affect their land, environment, livelihoods and future.
FSANP is calling for:
✊ Due process and transparency
✊ An end to unnecessary and repetitive summons
✊ Accountability concerning reported medical-care concerns
✊ Protection of environmental and community defenders
✊ Full responses to Access to Information requests
✊ Meaningful public participation on the proposed Siaya Nuclear Power Plant
This is bigger than one individual. It is about the right of communities to participate peacefully in decisions that affect their future.
Stand with James.
Stand with Siaya.
Stand for justice.
Stand for the right to be heard.
